BBKid 0 #1 October 24, 2003 Does anyone actually use them? Everything I've read and been told about pull-out suggests that they are likely to be snatched out of your hand before you reach full arm extension, which suggests to me that most people are using base mounted PC's in their pullout systems. If you use an apex mounted pullout, why? For those using base mounted versions, what made you choose this version? I'm not allowed to use one yet or anything, I'm just curious. councilman24 37 #2 October 24, 2003 I don't use a through out but ..... With a pullout you have opened the container. You don't want to hold on to the pilot chute. This could allow the bag to leave and potentially malfunction when the PC is finally released. Holding on to the PC with either hand deploy system isn't a good idea but is really not appropriate for a pullout. So a base handle doesn't allow you to. Also remember the handle of a pull out is connected to the pin and only in a flexible way to the bottom of the PC. A similar handle on the top would put a piece of webbing and pin along with the handle on top of the PC. Too much stuff.I'm old for my age. diablopilot 2 #3 October 24, 2003 I can't think of a single manufacturer that makes an apex mounted Pull-out P/C. As for the base mounted pull out P/C, I have found tha a vigorus throw like one would use witha throw-out works very well, and will little noticabe difference. The "snach" factor is not noticable, however the time between release, and bag extraction feels momentarily longer.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. SkymonkeyONE 4 #5 October 24, 2003 a Master Rigger here, Tim Tennant, has an apex mounted pull-out PC on his Odyssey. He ordered it from Sunpath that way. Actually, there are two others here that have the same option. By the way, Tim posts as USskydiver here on dropozone.com, so PM him if you want to discuss it further. diablopilot 2 #6 October 24, 2003 I should has been more specific. I don' know of any manufacturer that makes an apex mounted pull-out as standard. The only jumpers I've met that used one, were CReW dogs. Not sure why though. Due to the shortness of the bridle on a sport rig with a pull-out I don't like the idea of a base mounted pull-out.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. rigging65 0 #7 October 24, 2003 Apex mounted pull-outs aren't the greatest idea in the world. With a lanyard hanging off the apex, you run the risk of it half-hitching around the bridle or base of the pc and choking off the p/c as it's trying to inflate. If you give a standard pull-out a nice hard pull and throw, you won't run into the "pull-out-elbow" situation of it getting yanked out of your hand and tweaking your arm. I've got lots of pull-out jumps and have never gotten "yanked" while deploying like this. "...and once you had tasted flight, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward.
