Caseadilla 0 #1 October 23, 2003 In your opinion what is the best place to find used gear on the Internet. Besides DZ.com
scottjaco 0 #2 October 23, 2003 Well I'd make damn sure you know what you want and what you are willing to pay for it before messing with the internet...... Does your Home DZ have a Demo program? Most legitamate skydivers can sell their rigs at their home DZ's or by putting an Ad in Parachutist. The whole E-bay thing makes me nervous. It seems like every rig that is being sold claims to only have 10-100 jumps on it. I find that a little hard to swallow. Be careful is all I'm saying! scott

The only way to do the ebay thing is to use an escrow service.Replying to: Re: Stall On Jump Run Emergency Procedure? by billvon If the plane is unrecoverable then exiting is a very very good idea. PhreeZone 20 #4 October 23, 2003 >Most legitamate skydivers can sell their rigs at their home DZ's or by putting an Ad in Parachutist. Why pay to advertise in Parachutist when Sangiro offers free classifieds on here? I've had really good luck buying a complete rig and 2 canopies off of these Classifieds. >It seems like every rig that is being sold claims to only have 10-100 jumps on it. I find that a little hard to swallow. Guess what? A lot of new jumpers make the mistake of spending a few grand on a new custom rig as soon as they graduate AFF then for some reason they lose the desire or quit the sport before they get more then a hundred or so jumps. I bought a used rig with 70 jumps on 3 years ago it that was GREAT and I still jump the container, reserve and Cypres.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Hazarrd 1 #5 October 23, 2003 I found my rig through eBay. I asked for the guys phone number, called him up and got every piece of information. Found him to be a really nice guy and trusted his word. He agreed to send me the rig to my DZ without me paying anything. I told him if I didn't think something about it I would send it back. Everything worked out really well and the rig was better than I had expected. My brother recently did the same thing through eBay however he paid upfront. Everything worked out well for him also. eBay is definitely a trustworthy place to find a rig, just be careful. .-.
andy2 0 #6 October 23, 2003 would suck majorly if you never got your product after dishing out 2 grand. I've been taken for smaller (much smaller) items on ebay a couple times, I'll stress your point again: be careful on Ebay. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... Harksaw 0 #7 October 23, 2003 I would never pay money upfront for a rig on ebay. I have for other things, but its the cost that keeps me from doing this for a rig. I know for things like cars and motorcycles, bids on ebay are not binding. I wouldnt make a binding bid on a rig on ebay unless I saw the rig first, and if I did, whats the point of Ebay? I know you already mentioned it, but dropzone.com is the best place I have found online for used gear. Most ppl will send the gear to your rigger before insisting on payment. Also, there is a ton of stuff there, more than enclave.com or anywhere else I have found. I also looked at skykat.com, cousindave, and sunshine-factory online and their used gear listed was not what I needed.__________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. skybytch 273 #8 October 23, 2003 Quotethen for some reason they lose the desire or quit the sport before they get more then a hundred or so jumps. Well, yeah, or they get hurt cuz what they bought was really too small for them when shit happened so they quit the sport... I've seen lots of used gear with an honest "less than 100 jumps" on it. cruzlite 0 #9 October 23, 2003 Casey, I have recently bought and sold used gear on DZ.com with nothing but the best results. I bought some new gear at Square 1, Perris CA. & Ralph in OR.-I wouldn't hesitate to buy used from either if they had what I wanted. (I believe Ralph has a large stock of use gear & DOES stand behind his satisfaction gaurantee) There are others, but I have no experience with so..can't recommend. I will add this though; In my case it was difficult to be patient - I bought new instead of waiting & watching... One week after I placed my order for main- there it was on DZ.com. Would have saved me $400. Good Luck, D
paulagc 0 #10 October 24, 2003 I've been very happy with my purchases from dz.com and enclave. I've talked with the sellers, got pictures sent, and then had things shipped COD. Also, most people will negotiate on the price. Make sure you get all dates of manufacture, and make sure they jive with the supposed number of jumps. Find out where the gear was used (sand = lesser value). And, get a good feel for what used skydivng gear is really worth. Good luck!
Caseadilla 0 #11 October 24, 2003 I also believe DZ.com classifieds is a great place to buy and sell gear. I sold my complete rig on there a couple of weeks ago. I just can't find what I'm looking for on these classifieds. I did find a great deal on aerostore.com though. Thanks for all of the input!
