Smokejumper gear

The first batch of square canopies (for smokejumpers) were built by Para-Flite and almost the same as the canopies used by military freefallers (MT-1X, etc.). They are readily identifiable by the span-wise construction of their top-skins.
The second batch of canopies were designed by Bill Gargano in the late 1980s. Gargano canopies can be identified by the curved (line attachment) flares on the bottom skin. If you look closely, you will see that Gargano's flares are curved - instead of the triangular flares on Para-Foils.
I examined Gargano's patterns back in 1993, when I was working for Butler. We were building drogues for smokejumpers, but declined to bid on a contract to build main canopies.
