Launching from a C-182

Recommended Posts

Just curious. I currently fly a big camera-style wing and have found that if I step off backwards from the step, I'm relatively stable but have no real ability to turn left until I'm off the hill. OTOH, if I dive towards the tail from the step, I feel totally in control and get this nifty feeling like I'm riding a toboggan down the hill head first.

Was wondering if that will roughly hold true with a wingsuit or if the tail wing will dramatically change it up.

I prefer to go off on my back from the C-182, but I'm wierd.:P

I have done many 'student' type exits from the C-182 also, and have no problems turning straight from exit either way.

I think the 'hill' has less of an effect on a wingsuit IMHO.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by this (I've never even exited a Cessna in my WS) but in general I disagree with the statement. The hill has MORE of an effect on a wingsuit, IMO. This is why we teach WS students on planes like Otters not to spread wings right away on exit, or they can fly into the tail.

I think what Lee means is that in 'normal' fastfall, you dont have a lot of wind to work with (to steer your body) straight from exit..

In a wingsuit, the relative wind that hits you combined with your bigger controll surfaces means you have (more) immidiate controll...

and more ways of f8king up too..B|

Yeah, thanks Jarno, that's what i was getting at. You can start flying straight away, hence the 'being on the hill' stuff doesn't really apply.

You'll have to excuse me, English isn't my first language...oh...wait a minute...:$:P
