alexey 6 #1 October 16, 2003 At the final inspection of the year we found some trouble during inspection of 3 ring release. It was made of: M3333 (from P-G catalog) H3800B H3860B H3880B The hole in the end of release, where placed grommet for white loop, was oval (instead of round). Because of this, grommet loosening with time, and there appear a sharp edge, which can cut white loop, and release riser. (photo in attachment) After that we inspect more rigs, and found same troubles in big enough quantity of they, made after 01.2001 Can somebody comment it? Sorry for bad English :(Lexa
billbooth 10 #2 October 16, 2003 The hole in the housing ending (#4 AMP, if the correct fitting was used) isn't oval, it's just a bit larger than the #"0" grommet which is set in it. It appears that either the wrong AMP fitting was used, or the grommet simply wasn't set well. (You have to modify the standard tool to set grommets well in the AMP fitting.) Anyway, I have never heard of the problem you described cutting the white loop. However, if the wrong tool was used to set the grommet, and a very sharp edge resulted, then you could have a problem, and should keep a close watch for any signs of the white loop fraying. ifics 0 #3 October 16, 2003 Could you not file down the sharp edge?
alexey 6 #4 October 16, 2003 We begin to fret because white loop was damaged. And - there was RSL on that riser :( Its exactly oval (we disassembled to watch...), and sharp edge fraying loop (on that riser) On other rigs we can see oval in the same way holes, so, I start panic :) But, thanks for comment, I will think about more...Lexa

They seem to make them incorrectly, contact them and have them solve it.
alexey 6 #6 October 16, 2003 Its not only they problem - I see it on many rigs (oval holes), and ParAAvis do not build their - they buying it from Para GearLexa
Hooknswoop 19 #7 October 16, 2003 Are the housings long enough so that they are not being stretched/loaded when the 3-rings are loaded? Derek
billbooth 10 #8 October 16, 2003 It sounds like the wrong fitting was used as a housing ending. If it is fraying the white loop, it must be replace with the correct fitting, or the entire housing must be replaced. The white loop is many times stronger than it needs to be, but at some point the fraying will get so bad that you should not jump the rig any more without repair.
