ifics 0 #1 October 15, 2003 When you first got your setup how much did you pay for all of it? Not when you got your first used stuff but when you first designed your container through buying your main, reserve and cypress. Is 5k about right? I was bored and priced putting together and brand new setup and it came out to about 5k without a new main. DATZ A LOT OF MOOLA!!! I see now why ppl say buy used. Blahr 0 #2 October 15, 2003 $3800.00 for new rig $ 500.00 for used Cypres ------------------------------ $4300.00 total I saved a few bucks buying used cypres. Had I bought a new Cypres2 it would have hit the 5k mark. New rig is: H/C: Vector 3 M-Series w/skyhook + a few options Main: Sabre2 210 Reserve: PD-
Hooknswoop 19 #3 October 15, 2003 $4500.00-ish for a new container, Cypres, ZP main and PD reserve. Like cars, if you pay retail, you got screwed. Derek
ifics 0 #4 October 15, 2003 So I guess about 4-5k is about normal for a new setup. I paid 6100 for my bike which was a big investment but I got it because I love it. When you look at it like that its not as painful I guess.
Kris 0 #5 October 15, 2003 Granted I got all my stuff at a staff discount but... Mirage G3 with mega-options including nickel plated hardware & UNISYN harness, New Stiletto 190, New Tempo 2.0 210 for $3500 + An 11 month old Cypres for $650. = $4150 Not too shabby.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
ifics 0 #6 October 15, 2003 When I was checking stuff out it was the brand new Cypress 2 for 1200 that put it a bit over 5k.

TALONSKY 0 #8 October 15, 2003 I paid $2598.00 for an Infinity container with everything and a PD 143 Reserve. The Cypress was $850.00 and a Crossfire 2 130 with 70 jumps on it was $1200.00. So my first custom rig was $4648.00 My Second rig $250.00 for a pristine Eclipse container, $630.00 for a PD 126 and $800 for a Crossfire 129 with 200 jumps so "B" rig $1680.00 Kirk

Hooknswoop 19 #11 October 15, 2003 -Sabre2/Spectre/Safire2/Hornet/Triatholon main canopy -PD Reserve -Mirage/Vector3/Javelin/Velocity container (limit your options) -Cypres1 AAD For a first rig, definately get a used main/container/reserve. Buying a new Cypres is a good idea because you can transfer it to a new rig. Derek
skybytch 273 #12 October 15, 2003 Quotein order to get a good price deal Contact any of the major online gear stores, or one of the larger gear stores on a bigger dz. You'll find that they sell containers and canopies for 15-20% off the list price. With a 20% discount you could pick up a new Wings or Infinity container, new Sabre2 or Spectre main, new PD reserve and new Cypres2 for about $4800. Change the Cypres2 to a used Cypres1 with less than four years left on it and bring the total down to $4000. Change the main to something used and the total could go down to $3200 or so. Pick up a used reserve instead and the total drops under $3000. Used container will take you well under $3000. If you're working on a tight budget you can't really afford to be picky about which container or which main. imho pretty much any container built in the US since about 1996 is gonna work fine if it fits your body and the canopies you want to use. Same with a main - as long as it's sized conservatively considering your experience, skill, training and location and it's a good "entry level" canopy (Spectre, Sabre, Sabre2, Hornet, Triathlon, Safire, Safire2, Pilot) it'll be great for your first 100-200 jumps. mikkey 0 #13 October 15, 2003 In my first 2 jump careers I did "steal, beg and borrow" equipment due to lack of funds and found it very frustrating. When I came back this time (after 11 years), I decided to get my own stuff that fits me. Expensive but jumping is much more fun this time: Talon 3: A$ 2700 Safire2: A$ 2600 "Airforce" Reserve: A$1500 Cypres: A$ 1600 Total: A$8400 ~ $5400 US Plus suit, dytter and helmet. Expensive, but if you look at re-sale value of complete set that "fits" together compared to some of the second hand "mixed" rigs on the market, it might be the best option. With todays low interest rates I would think the total cost of ownership can be lower this way (finance a new rig). But be sure only to do it if you are certain to stay in the sport for a while.--------------------------------------------------------- When people look like ants - pull. The111 1 #14 October 15, 2003 Wow, I still think I got a pretty good deal (far below retail), but I paid more than anyone here. Vector III with almost all options, except for Skyhook Spectre 170 PD Reserve 160 Cypres 2 All new, $5300. Still 15+% below retail by my calcs (15% average between items, I think canopies/containers were discounted even more but the Cypres couldn't be too much), and the best deal I could get after checking some large DZ gear stores and online retailers. It is supposed to be ready in two days. :) Same as you, Blahr (I know because Arlo mentioned that to me). Only difference is I am in the same area as her so I can pick it up right away and have mine before you. www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Zoter 0 #17 October 15, 2003 so...any recommendations for online gear shops ? Im from the UK....dos anyone know about the issues of importing kit bought in the US...or should I just plan a 'cheeky' holiday at about the same time as the rig is meant to be ready.. The111 1 #18 October 15, 2003 Well as we were saying above TSO-D is a good one. May not be a super fancy website, but their customer service and prices are impeccable. Just don't let Arlo know I said that, or it might go to her head! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
headoverheels 334 #19 October 15, 2003 About $675, but it was a used reserve. Papillon main, 24 flat circular reserve, GreenStar container, no AOD.
