piercewhat 0 #1 February 8, 2006 I have looked are Bird-man.com and the closest BMI is in Virgina. Are there any other instructors that are around to be able to teach or do I need to make the trek to VA? Thanks for your help.
Buried 0 #2 February 8, 2006 curious why you need a BMI? Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?
piercewhat 0 #3 February 8, 2006 I thought that is what you had to do if you wanted to learn to fly wingsuit before 500 jumps. Am I mistaken?
tr027 0 #4 February 8, 2006 You are correct. I checked the Phoenix site and there is a PFI in NY and also one in Chicago. Looks like those are the nearest wingsuit instructors to you (assuming you are right that there are no BMIs in your neighborhood). Good luck. www.phoenix-fly.com"The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. Buried 0 #5 February 8, 2006 QuoteI thought that is what you had to do if you wanted to learn to fly wingsuit before 500 jumps. Am I mistaken? had is pretty subjective. I and many others would recommend taking a course through a BMI, but ofcourse it isn't necessary.. No i dont suggest you get a suit and go for it yourself, but if there are very experienced WS flyers around or at your dz that have a spare beginner suit then I personally wouldn't see a problem with that.. but it would really depend on the two people (the student and the teacher). They need to be very knowledgeable about flying and be able to translate that info to the student... not everyone is good at that. The skydiving skills of the student is also very important so people could easily come back and say "work on this for the next 30-50 jump and come back". Like everything, it is up to the jumper himself to get safely back on the ground. with that said, if you want to do it right and learn a bunch, get a PFI or BMI to train you - it will be worth the $. Just work it into a skydiving trip over a boogie or something. zflock is around the corner :) Where is my fizzy-lifting drink?
SkymonkeyONE 4 #6 February 8, 2006 The only "pure" skydiving wingsuiting fatality since Patrick DeGuyardon was a kid with under 500 jumps who got very-poor training from another inexperienced guy (both wingsuit and otherwise) on a suit that he had bought from someone who clearly didn't care that he was selling it to an unqualified person. Do yourself a favor and AT LEAST find a VERY experienced wingsuit pilot to train you if you cannot find a BMI.
piercewhat 0 #7 February 8, 2006 I will see if I can make it down to Z-flock. Thanks for the help I appreciate it.
Buried 0 #8 February 8, 2006 QuoteI will see if I can make it down to Z-flock. Thanks for the help I appreciate it. yeah i would recommend it. you will meet a bunch of birds there too. If not, there are always a bunch of great WS pilots and BMIs/PFIs in FL (z hills for sure) or in NC year around. All are good people and you are [probably] more likely to learn more from them than from most others. I'd prob say to also pm a few PFIs/BMIs on here to make sure what you may be getting into and to make sure you are ready for it. ..but maybe it's just me that would do that since I like doing a bunch of research on something before I actually get into something.
