I really do make an effort, whenever possible,
to have an open container above the canopies of skydivers.
If there are no canopies below for reference,
I try to keep in mind where the DZO is.

That depends on a lot of things. Like maybe whether the DZO is around or not

Any normal skydive, break off at 4500, track till 3500, wave and pitch.

Same goes for wingsuiting, most of the time. If i'm enjoying it i might take it down a little lower, but not much more than say 3000.

With a fairly small, fairly twitchy canopy I pitch 1000 ft higher than normal - at 4k.

When I am flying my camera (most of the time), between 3.5 and 4k. If I'm jumping without a helmet and know there's nothing snaggable on my head, I'll pull as low as 2.5k if I have a reason to. My canopy snivels a lot.

P.S. Anywhere between 4k and 300', depending on the gear and DZ particulars. A small elliptical canopy easily adds 2k to the comfort zone, then Skyhook shaves 1k off that. A BASE rig puts it in a different league alltogether (yes, there are plenty of places that allow or tolerate that). Finally a DZO can give or take a couple of grand
