MB38 0 #1 November 1, 2005 I was on the second or third to last load at Perris on Sunday and found myself going out before 4 or 5 guys donning heavily Red Bulled wingsuits. Apparently they were going to attempt to fly relative to a jet that had been at the airport that day... couldn't identify it though. They were flying smoke but I wasn't able to pick them out while under canopy. Didn't see any of them back at the packing area, so I didn't get to ask how it went. Anybody know what the deal is with those jumps? How they're going? What the idea is?I really don't know what I'm talking about.
Peej 0 #2 November 1, 2005 There was a thread about this yesterday but i'd also love to hear more on it. Mike Swanson and Eli Thompson were among the flyers. Anyone else with more info? Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky

Peej 0 #4 November 1, 2005 QuoteSee here Thanks, that was the thread i was thinking of but it doesn't actually say much about why they were trying to fly relative to it, what their intentions were etc. Hopefully someone with a bit more info will post up. I told the guys I was posting about it on dz.com's Bonfire if they wanted to get onboard and share about it. Guess they haven't gotten around to it yet. If they don't post I'll ask around this coming weekend and get back with ya'll. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Now what the hell am i supposed to say to that? But in all seriousness, that made me think JP. I'd like to think their motivations go beyond purely photographic. Like to further what we as human beings can do in the sky. I mean what's Jebs motivation for landing a ws, why did Luigi push the 39 and 36 project, what about Loic's awesome mountian swoops and Chris docking the Xaos 21? Was/is it all for cool video? Dammit man, you suddenly got me thinking.... Advertisio Rodriguez / Sky
cpoxon 0 #9 November 3, 2005 QuoteTo get sharp looking Red Bull photos maybe? Hmm, from the ground, the jet seemed to be quite a long way from the wingsuits (not that I'd want a jet very close to me!). From a moving platform (was the camera hand-held or mounted), I'd be interested in seeing how sharp the images are...Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

He said that the jumps with the jet were good, but he wasn't able to get the shot he needed. Mainly because the jet was making left turns and his camera was mounted on the left side of his helmet...thus making it very difficult to fly his wing suit and have his head cocked over to the right (he demo'd and made us laugh). The jump was relative, however, and at the closest point was about 100 feet away, he said. Eli hopes to be able to make the jump again and have the pilot make -right hand turns- next time. The project is for Red Bull, but he was not telling all. Secret. Oh, and btw, the pilots were at Perris (with their jet again) today. They weren't there to fly it, however. They were making tandems! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

I've never flown a side-mount, but I've heard people say this before and I don't quite understand. If the camera is inline with your line of sight, wouldn't you have to turn your head the same angle in either direction to go left or right?www.WingsuitPhotos.com

If the camera is inline with your line of sight, wouldn't you have to turn your head the same angle in either direction to go left or right? Stand in between to people with an imaginary sidemount (camera on the left) Now look to the left and film the back of the head of that person. Piece of cake. When you look at his ear, your camera will have the back of his head in frame. Now turn to your right, and twist your head as far as possible to see that persons back of his head with the cameralens. When you look at that persons ear, your camera-lens will stil be pointing towards that persons face. To see the back of his head you have to twist much further.. When someone is flying next to you on the right, with a sidemount, you'll be filming the ground underneath if you don't overcompensate a bit (in terms of what your line-of-sight is seeing)JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? The111 1 #19 November 7, 2005 I understand that concept, and it would seem valid for tight flying. But the camera lens is only offset about 6 inches from center... and when filming a large object like a jet, at a considerable distance (I'm assuming he wasn't taking docks ), I would think that 6 inches is negligible...www.WingsuitPhotos.com
