The111 1 #1 October 19, 2005 I know somebody who has his left arm amputated, just below the elbow I think (correct me if I'm wrong Mike, if you're reading this). He has over 800 skydives and is as far as I know a skilled RW jumper, using a prosthetic attachment with a claw on it for taking docks, etc. He is interested in flying a wingsuit, maybe, and I am curious what people's thoughts are on how safe/doable this would be. Real experience is better than hypothesizing, so I guess the ultimate question is "has this already been done?" Does anyone know of any amputee flockers out there? Concerns besides flying in my mind are post-opening procedures, etc. The Prodigy sounds attractive for this purpose.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
Tonto 1 #2 October 19, 2005 I don't forsee a problem on the flight in any suit that does not require wing tip grippers. The only issue with opening (apart from possible entanglement with the hook/bridal during deployment) is the ability to unzip from the suit. In this case it may be wiser to cut the wing away or create a function designed loop to allow the hook to get the zipper tag. Guessing, of course, but I've taken a paraplegic through AFF, so am more the type to think why it should be done rather than why it shouldn't. tIt's the year of the Pig. Like Jumping an Access or something with a single wing cutaway handle ????scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
Tonto 1 #4 October 19, 2005 Yes. I'm thinking a Sugarglider, S Fly etc all have central wing release handles. Bit of a shlep having to hook up again for each dive, but worth it for a hit of nylon crack! tIt's the year of the Pig.

LouDiamond 1 #6 October 19, 2005 Which arm does he wear the prosthetic on? Above/below the elbow is of concern as it may affect how pressure can be applied to it while in a wingsuit. There are some other considerations to take into account but can be adapted for if your friend determines he is capable of doing them."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

Tonto 1 #9 November 3, 2005 Hey! (I've attached Jonathan for anyone who wants to read it..) I think you'd do fine! Try on as many suits as you can to see which one will work best for you. I was flying alongside an S-Fly base this past weekend, and it flew WAY beyond my expectations. it has a central wing cut away position and is suitable for a 1st flight. Have you had to modify your cutaway and reserve handles at all? tIt's the year of the Pig.
droquette 0 #10 November 11, 2005 I think you have to grab grippers on the prodigy... If i remember correctly... how could he do that with only one hand? danHISPA 72 ----- "Muff Brother" 3733
