SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 October 13, 2005 QuoteAnybody? I am thinking about doing some cool photos (digital) for next weekend (22nd-23rd oct) Please contact me,. Andre Two words: NORMAN KENT. Norman does a fantastic job flying a huge 10D on his HAND while he flys around you in his S3. If you want the best shot, get in touch with Norman. Perry does a good job too, but he only flies helmet-mounted. Chuck
The111 1 #4 October 13, 2005 Yeh, how did I forget him? I am not sure what camera he used in Rantoul on a wingsuit jump we did (he did hand mount it like you said), but it was putting out pics with 14 megapixels, I believe he said. The detail was unbelievable, he was zooming in on tiny logos on people's rigs and they were still clear.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
dragon2 2 #5 October 13, 2005 That's a Kodak: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Kodak/kodak_dcsslrn.asp His has been modified a few times I believe (there's also at least 4 different versions of this camera), he makes it work in freefall. We couldn't ciel bleu, Saskia
LouDiamond 1 #6 October 13, 2005 QuoteHis has been modified a few times I believe From what I saw when he let me play around with it, it was a standard set up, as in nothing fancy. The hand mount he uses IS trick and quite smack booty. I have played around with using it myself but even with a Rebel on it I just wasn't comfortable with it. Part of the whole set up that makes it work is a very cool snap link Norm got in some off the wall place that holds the camera after deployment, that I've never been able to find anywhere else."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
dragon2 2 #7 October 13, 2005 Nah I mean he had one of the first kodak's, pre-production even, and it still needed a lot of tweaking. Correction for color shifts etc. Also it had its buffer enlarged. For some reason his camera works fine, although apperantly it does show a tiny little bit of the problems we (or rather, Henny) were having with 2 later models when taking pics in freefall: color shifts from magenta to green, plain out-of-focus shots and a milky white discoloration on some shots. Then other shots were great. Shoot me My un-educated opinion is that the chip is bouncing around in the camera, and the seperate layers of the chip too. Or something like that Then again, my laptop doesn't mind so much, the 13+ MP RAW pics were kinda much ciel bleu, Saskia
avenfoto 0 #8 October 14, 2005 in response to andre, norman or scary are almost always there... perry is here at the holiday inn right now room 346, feel free to stop by... as far as the 14n goes, we shoot one in the studio, 1st generation as well, and it has its fair share (and then some) of bugs and strange little "quips" from time to time, this in a controlled setting so id imagine a freefall application would be a bit tricky... The111 1 #10 October 17, 2005 QuotePerry does a good job too, but he only flies helmet-mounted. Chuck, are you meaning to say there's a disadvantage to "only" helmet mounting it? I'm trying to think of what the advantages are to a hand mount, and I honestly can't say, although I'll admit it sure looks cool. To me it almost seems limiting, since your sighting method is down your arm, which means you can only shoot pics from above and in front of the subject. Correct me if I'm wrong. You need your arm (hand) to fly, so there are only so many ways you could move the camera, even if you didn't have to use your arm as a sight (which limits those few possible directions of aiming to one). Your head can swivel in many directions and is less related (very little) to your flying. One thing good about Perry is he is a great acrobatic/backflyer and can get shots from any angle/location, above or below.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
SkymonkeyONE 4 #11 October 30, 2005 Norman gets some really sick shots with his hand-mount. he doesn't really "sight down his arm", he just points the camera where he wants and the wide angle lens guarantees the shot. I have seen him take photos from all angles.
