smokejmprwannab 0 #1 October 2, 2003 I have an old vector container that my rigger has done some work to in order to make it more freefly friendly. He installed a tuck tab on the main pin cover, bridle protection flap, boc, and put new velcro on the riser covers. However, it still has velcro on the riser covers, reserve pin cover, and will simply never be as good as a new javelin or mirage. My main concern would be that the riser covers could come unstowed. How big of a problem would that be? My rigger says that he doesn't suggest trying to sitfly in it, but doesn't seem to be completely opposed to the idea. advice? AggieDave 6 #2 October 2, 2003 If you search, you'll find a good handful of threads talking about FFing a Vector2. I put about 150 or so FF jumps on a couple different Vector2s, but then again, it was never FF-friendly. I always called them FF-cordial. Anyways, some very knowledgable people and riggers have covered this before and I'm sure you'd find your answer in the previous threads.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Auryn 0 #3 October 2, 2003 it sounds like you are doing the right thing.. I have had several rigger indicate that as long as the riser cover velcro is newish and well maintained, it will work for freefly. Personally, I had a Vector 2 at 202 mph head down without a problem at all.. video indicated no let go of any flaps. once you get it done, have an exam of the rig by a rigger, and you should be okay, provided you keep your gear situation in mind when you fly.. be a touch conservative until you know how it will behave. Chrisky 0 #4 October 2, 2003 I'm currently jumping one with very worn velcro (until my new wings arrive in two weeks). Last week, while doing cartwheels, one of the risercovers came open, relaesing the (triple) riser and unstowing the toggle. I immediately went to the box, grabbing the toggle and holding the riser cover shut til deployment. Got a hefty snag against my arm from the toggle (which i let go to deploy of course) and of course opened in a spin. Thus, i definitely do not recommend FFlying one. While it may be ok for a sit (without cartwheels), it could be a nasty premature. If you could afford a rig with better freefly friendlyness, i would go for it. It's not good to jump with a bad vibe in the back. Just my two centsThe mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ...
