The111 1 #1 September 11, 2004 Yeh, it's a minor detail. But as with everything else in skydiving, I've heard varying opinions. And as with everything else (within reason) in skydiving, I will find out my answer on my own through experimentation. But I'm curious what the prevailing opinion on here is... I've heard: a) Toes pointed with feet parallel to each other (well, close to parallel) b) Toes pointed "out" (90 degrees between feet)www.WingsuitPhotos.com
leroydb 0 #2 September 11, 2004 I am most positive that Chuck points his toes outward (added: it does not have to be 90%, just till the tail is taught). It makes sense, it causes the tail to lose any minor flapping.Leroy ..I knew I was an unwanted baby when I saw my bath toys were a toaster and a radio... diablopilot 2 #3 September 11, 2004 Totaly depends on what suit you're flying.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
LouDiamond 1 #4 September 11, 2004 The majority of the issue is tensioning the suit correctly without distorting the wing(be it arms or leg). Most people point their toes like a normal track and this tensions the front of the leg/suit which in turn gives you a cleaner surface for producing forward speed. Proper tensioning of the leg wing (width wise)is accomplished by spreading ones legs until the fabric is taught and this helps establish the surface area needed and allows for proper inflation of the leg wing. I have seen extreme cases where people can literally turn their feet out 180 out from one another. On the bigger suits the tail comes down to ones heels so turning the feet completely 180 out means your heel could be pushing down on part of the wing. The intent is to make the fabric taught. The pilot can feel if he can add more tension or not based on his feedback from the suit. Often times what you are refering to by pointing ones toes out is little more than once the suit is taught you can ever so slightly push your toes outward and get a little bit more tension on the bottom portion of the leg wing down by the heels. Point your toes until you feel taught fabric across your shin, spread your legs until you feel taught fabric on the outside of your knees/legs and if you can ,attempt to angle your toes outward."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
ManBird 0 #5 September 12, 2004 I generally go with the "parallel" thing. The reason for that is that it also pushes my heels out as far as possible. It's easy to maintain symmetry, and therefore stability, when flying maxed."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
