ManBird 0 #1 June 30, 2004 Just a friendly note to new birds (there seem to be a lot lately) to watch your deployment body position and timing. This type of deployment is essentially a flare. Dropping your knees while moving forwards fast throws on the brakes. It yields a very low fall rate, but also changes the size and angle of your burble. If you use ProTrack or Paralog and see überlow fall rates, followed by a fast fall rate, followed by the canopy snatching you up, this is most likely what is causing it. I paid a lot of attention to body position and sound in a "head high" or "flared" deployment position, and also looked at Paralog data. Three out of five of these "head high" deployments resulted in noticeable hesitations, due most likely to both burble and overall low air pressure (high 20s, low 30s in a "flare"). Two other "full flight" deployments resulted in a line of line twists (line stretch and then slack when you are as high as (or above) the canopy). Remember to fully transition to a "fall" before deploying. I've just read a lot of people saying that they've decided upon their deployment position by watching videos of other jumpers -- it will work, but it can be better! 'Tis all."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
KrisFlyZ 0 #2 July 1, 2004 Thanks for the advise manbird. I have noticed that as I get slower on the suit, my openings have got more delayed. I will work on going to relaxed flight prior to pull time. Kris
