SkydiveNFlorida 0 #1 September 25, 2003 What size are the risers on most student gear? I tried on this used container that was sent to me, but the risers are real short. Is this a bad thing? Can this hinder landings at all? Bad for swooping (eventually)? I see ads for used risers, but have to wonder what size the ones I used before (on student gear and borrowed gear) were. Thanks! Angela.
NightJumper 0 #2 September 25, 2003 18" to 23" is typical. This is a personal preference. I have short arms so I made my risers 19". My only recomendations is to get velcroless toggles and front riser loops.
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #3 September 25, 2003 They have the loops and are velcroless, but seem really short, lol!! Where are your elbows supposed to be when you're holding your brakes but not putting any pressure on them? Like, with the student gear, my arms would have been fully extended. With these, i'm almost in half brakes just resting my hands in the toggles. thx! Angela.

You need to hang from a pull-up bar about 2 hours a day to lenghten out your arms. JumpScars remind us that the past is real
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #5 September 25, 2003 No no no:p My arms are too long for these risers. Angela.
PhreeZone 20 #6 September 26, 2003 You just lowered the toggles closer to you and moved the flare point by how ever many inches shorter the risers are then yor old ones. If the risers are 3 inches shorter then it will seem like to get the same flare you will need to move the toggles 3 inches further away from you then the longer risers. You are not in half breaks with shorter risers, if anything it will be harder to get to half breaks since previous experience will tell you that at your chest is half breaks and with shorter risers it might be a few inches lower then that.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #7 September 26, 2003 Well, I know. I was kinda exaggerating. I was saying with these risers, that where my hands sit is like at the top of my head, rather than far above me. Whereas before I used to lift my arms all the way up to reach the toggles, giving me more flare space. thx:) Angela.
