Wing comparison between S1 and S3

Recommended Posts

As a byproduct of this post with pictures of my suit, I thought I'd overlay the two suits to demonstrate the difference in the size of the wings. The suits are not identically sized, but pretty similar.

The leg wings are aligned along the rear seam against the leg and the righ leg is turned back on the front seam to illustrate. Bigger difference than I though or maybe it's the smaller difference in the arm that is surprising?

I have an S-1, and there is no way that my leg wing is that small. I did place it up to a new S-3 and it was not that drastic, maybe it was the pic that deceives this or maybe it wasn't what we were supposed to be looking at, but the big difference in mine and the S-3 is that the leg wing is "Longer" and maybe a scotche wider. Hmm, am curious to know what is going on with that. Like I have said in the previous posts, I have the Yellow and white Skyflyer that is pictured on the Birdman website labeled "Skyflyer in flight". Can anyone explain this ?

Ok, I kinda feel stupid now, I went back and looked at the pics, and I see where it is the "STITCHING" that he wanted us to look at. I think if the suit was laid out differently you could see that the wing is a little bigger than first noticed! Correct me if I am wrong. Sorry dudes, I'm a little messed up on Cough Syrup right now!

As you discovered, the two suits are very different in both arm and leg wing shape and cut. If you take notice on the SF leg wing you will also notice that the profile that suit was designed with has a tail wing that deflects downward more than any of the other suits a well. This can be seen down towards the booties where the wing is sewn to the legs. What you will find however is that even a SF3 will have different size wings from another SF3 if that suit is bigger/smaller. The wing size(not shape or profile) is proportional to the body of the person the suit is being made for. Having laid 3 custom made suits down next to each other, all from people of fairly similar height/weight, the wings were all slightly shorter/longer in either chord or span because of the wearers personal measurements. Variation ranged from about 1-3 inches of material.

That picture is deceiving because he has one leg folded back slightly. However, the SF leg wing is substantially smaller stance(width) wise than the SF3. Length on the SF3 leg wing is only slightly longer than the SF. Enjoy the cough syrup:D

Yeah, that is what I figured out after a short spell of stupidity. Sorry about that. I know, I'm a moron.
