Spectra line shrinkage.

Recommended Posts

I've got a Stiletto 135 that is quite used. I checked the line lengths a couple of weeks ago, and while shrinkage on the 550 Microline is pretty symmetrical, the outside lines are about 2 inches shorter than the spec. The canopy is very well-behaved, so I don't notice any performance issues, but how much shrinkage should one allow before replacing lines? It seems as though there is no exact answer for this, but I was wondering what people used for a guideline.

Does anyone know - would it be possible to just get a complete reline using HMA? Obviously cost would be an issue, but doens't this make sense?

Anything is possible, given enough money. It would probably be costly though.

Also, the lines would have to be continuous. No cascades because of the line size.

Vectran is a possibility - we haven't offered that on the Stiletto so far, as there for that canopy it isn't a huge advantage. It would just take time to get all the templates set up, and then to reline with Vectran would be a tad more expensive than to do it with Microline.

PD doesn't offer HMA for any type of canopy, at the moment at least - who knows what the R&D boys might come up with though :)
The control lines are 1000 lbs, both on 825 & 550 linesest.

Yup, soft openings and the lines seem to last forever compared to the other stuff!
It's mainly video guys & gals that go for the Dacron, or people that have sensitive back/necks, and need the extra padding on opening.

It does increase the pack volume a bit, and those that have changed from microline to dacron say they notice a little bit more drag in the lines.
