Hooknswoop 19 #3 September 22, 2003 The National Parachute Industries Phantom 24' recommended suspended weight is 90-165 lbs. They are affected by several SB's, including Kevlar upper band re-inforcement and Acid-mesh PH inspections. I have an 1983 Phantom 24' in the closet. I have no intentions of putting it in a skydiving rig. My advice, don't buy it, get a PD-R instead. Derek
rigging65 0 #4 September 22, 2003 You're really not going to be happy with that canopy if you're forced to use it. Buy a square reserve, your body will thank you for it later... Amazon 7 #5 September 23, 2003 I have 5 round reserve landings.. 1 into the water was not bad on the 24'... the ones on land... OUCH.... PLF is good.. and I practiced them A LOT during those days. Buy a square reserve.. with a 1 to 1 wingloading.. for your out the door weight.. 170+25=195.. so a PD 193R will do you good and you will LOVE it. hookitt 1 #6 September 23, 2003 QuoteWhat kind of landing would a phantom 24 round reserve give me? Nothing you'd be very interested in doing again. Besides all the good things you've already read, you wouldn't be able jump in winds, and the spot had better be good so you don't land on something you shouldn't such as a tree or power lines or bus on the freeway. They aren't very maneuverable if ya know what I mean. Hope that helpsMy grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... riggerrob 643 #7 September 23, 2003 Take it from someone who has landed three round reserves and 15 square reserves: buy a square reserve. There is a long list of Service Bulletins on Phantom reserves, (acid mesh, Kevlar bands, diaper replacement) that you really do not want to deal with. mjosparky 4 #8 September 23, 2003 The Phantom 24 is a copy of the Piglet R-3, but with one less lateral band. I did the original TSO testing on it for Para Inovators. At the time I was 160 lb. young and tough as nails. My advise, don't go near it. They will bite you in the butt.My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
Tonto 1 #9 September 26, 2003 Same advice as everyone else. I have 50+ jumps on 28ft rounds and 3 on round reserves. Get a square reserve loaded to around 1.0. When you're down to your last chance - do you want it to be completely unfamiliar? tIt's the year of the Pig.
