kevin922 0 #1 January 5, 2003 Hey I don't know if everyone here keeps up with talkback as well, but I did a birdman out of an Alloutte over the holidays in florida. Got it on video here Next time i'll have to try more like a base exit with the legs bent I think.

SkyFlyer 0 #3 January 6, 2003 Cool Video. This is the same helicopter that we jumped at the Key's Boogie in November and yesterday in Georgia (ASC-Cedartown). Like most helicopters the downward thrust from the blades really effects wingsuit exits. While it is fun to wing it from a heli, what do you guys think of using a heli exit to practice BASE flights? I've heard pros and cons but think any experience gained from the lack of forward flight is offset from the blade thrust.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #4 January 6, 2003 So, Baxter, did you wing it from the heli as well? Report!Chuck
SkyFlyer 0 #5 January 6, 2003 I was a wimp this time but did try out my new Cazar 26"/9' bridle PC on an Otter wingsuit jump with the Cobalt which worked great. Glad to hear you survived Arizona, that sounded like one hell of an jump!
TomAiello 26 #6 January 7, 2003 Quote...do you guys think of using a heli exit to practice BASE flights? Why not just use an elevator? I've never jumped a helicopter, but in my (limited) experience, the best way to approximate a BASE flight is just to find the safest object you can, and use that. A terminal tower witha good tailwind should give you plenty of safety margin, and lots of time to practice the exit and get into full flight.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
ManBird 0 #7 January 7, 2003 QuoteNext time i'll have to try more like a base exit with the legs bent I think. It's hard not to chase after someone going lower than you on exit. ;) That'd the coolest fucking ride. What altitude were you at? 6 or 5ish? That's awesome."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
SkyFlyer 0 #8 January 7, 2003 A terminal tower would be great but our local 2000' is pretty heavily watch... not that this is stopping me from tryingI was interested in finding some object/device from which you could practice a wingsuit exit in subterminal air without wires beside you or an object behind you. cpoxon 0 #10 January 16, 2003 Found this picture from when I did a BirdMan jump with my GTi from a Bell Jet Ranger (12th of May last year, jump number 667, damn, that would have been a cool jump number 666)

cpoxon 0 #12 January 16, 2003 QuoteOh cool you have different colored ribs too.. Not sure it has and they weren't requested to be. I think they just appear darker through the light colour of the wings with the light sky behind. I'll check this evening
kevin922 0 #13 January 16, 2003 Well it's pretty noticeable if you have them -- i can easily see my black ribs through the white wing when just looking at the wing in person. I thought it would be a neat effect, it came out just like I expected.
