jumpndoc 0 #1 September 14, 2003 I have been having problems with the openings on a Triathalon 175. It has about 200 jumps (only about 40 by me) and can really slam me on opening. I have been pro-packing it as I have been doing for years. I do notice if I REALLY roll the nose it does OK, but even that isn't always working. Any suggestions?? skybytch 273 #2 September 14, 2003 Contact Aerodyne and ask about getting a copy of their Tri packing video. A friend of mine was having the same problem with her new Tri; once she started packing it as they recommended in the video she hasn't been slammed. ianmdrennan 2 #3 September 14, 2003 have you made sure your slider grommets are all the way up to the chips on the canopy? Also quarter it nicely and make sure it's open to catch air. May help a bit. jumpndoc 0 #4 September 14, 2003 Boy, that was QUICK! Yes I always have the slider all the way up and quartered. I will also take the advice of getting the packing video from the manufacturer... Any other Suggestions??
Miami 0 #5 September 15, 2003 Hey Craig, I put about 1500 jumps on a tri 160 and found problems similar to what you are having. Had a couple of openings the were hard enough to snap lines! If I remember correctly what I did to make things better was to not roll the nose at all, instead just push the nose in toward the center of the canopy, then wrap the tail pretty tight. The tail really seemed to be what controlled the speed of the openings. Different canopies behave differently though, what worked for mine may not work for yours. The video will be a good starting point though. Oh, if you are doing any psycho pack or anything like that...don't. Good luck!Miami
skycop 0 #6 September 16, 2003 I agree with Miami, I roll both sides in (pro pack) just a couple of times, then push the center cell into the middle fairly deep and roll the tail several times . Aerodyne also recommends a four grommet bag. Contact them, they have great customer service. Tri's are packing sensitive, several years ago I wasn't so careful and WHAM!!! I blew up a 220 and knocked myself goofy(er). Since then I've been more careful and followed their advice, I've had no problems with my 190. "Just 'cause I'm simple, don't mean I'm stewpid!" jumpndoc 0 #7 September 16, 2003 Thanks, Miami and Skycop, I just talked to the Aerodyn guys and they think my slider is too small. I have always done the tail roll thing. Cliff at Aerodyn also thinks I am not making my line stows long enough. so I am putting a bigger slider on it and then lengthening my stows - we'll see how it goes... jumpndoc 0 #8 October 9, 2003 Well, the lengthening of the line stows didn't work (no change in vicious opening characteristics). So I am now putting on a bigger slider...
azdirttorpedo 0 #9 October 9, 2003 Look into having a lip sewn onto the slider. My Jedei has one and that thing opens so slow it's almost scary. check out the attachment. That little pocket on the front of the slider does wonders, keeps it pushed up against the canopy longer during opening sequence.
jumpndoc 0 #10 November 8, 2003 Well, I finally got a larger slider and it makes a big difference. Still crisp but not bone jarring. Thanks for all the advice.
