mini-risers and stowing slider

Recommended Posts

My last rig had the "standard" risers with Slinks. There was never an issue of the slider trying to come down beyond the slink connections. My question is: My new rig (G4) is coming with "mini-risers" and I plan on my rigger installing slinks as before....Is there a "preferred" method of stowing the slider and will it have a tendency to come down past the steering toggles during deployment, or will it stay above the suspension line connection point until I pull it down? If the slider stays up then I can collapse the slider after unstowing steering toggles. If not I will pull it "over" everything then collapse it and unstow the steering toggles. Looking for some input on what is "normal" practice for this setup.B|

i fly the same setup your going to. it does take some getting used to. i used to fly a Hornet and the slider came down past everything and covered my whole face up, i was looking through a neon green slider! B| this prompted a few adjustments. now, i'll deploy and when the slider comes down the lines, i'll pull both draw strings to collapse it just as it gets to the top of my slinks and simply pull it behind my head using the drawstrings that collapse the slder to pull it down past my brakes/toggles, if i have time i will stow it in my slider keeper, but generally the back of my helmet keeps it in place. i've seen some guys stow them underneath their chins as well, either way will work. the only thing i plan on changing in the future is purchasing a set of RWS risers because the have the top of the velcroless toggle keepers enclosed so the slider can't unstow a toggle for you during the deployment sequence. once you get used to it, you'll absolutely love it!

Slinks come with bumpers you can install now. If you want to keep your slider above the riser, use the bumpers. If you want to pull it down behind your head, install the Slinks without them.

Most modern risers come with toggle hoods. Hoods prevent the slider from bumping your toggles loose.
Also consider some sort of slider catcher. Old school skydivers use a bit of Velcro on the necks of their jumpsuits, though that practice is now frowned upon.
There are a couple of more recent designs of slider catchers that are sewn on near the bottom of the risers so they hold the slider about neck level.
