ksudiver87 0 #1 November 11, 2010 I'm 105lbs so I have problems flying relative with others. If I were to get a CRW canopy is it best to get a larger canopy for increase stability and wear weights OR get a smaller canopy so I don't have to wear as much weight? Pros and Cons to these?~Always do stupid things safely~
topdocker 0 #2 November 11, 2010 I think before anyone replies and gives you off-target advice, we might need a few more facts. What target wingloading are the people you jumping with flying? What canopies? How much weight are you willing to wear? Vest or in the rig? How much CRW experience do you have and how much are you looking to jump? (Cost benefit here) Which would you rather land out with, 20lbs extra on your belly, or a small canopy? There is no easy answer here, but lets talk options and safety. topJump more, post less! faulknerwn 38 #3 November 12, 2010 Ditto to what Craig said. What are the people around you jumping and at what wing loadings? Are you trying for local recreational CRW, or are you looking to travel to big ways?
ksudiver87 0 #4 November 12, 2010 This was more of a general question to see different opinions(clearly not the case is see). I've done a handfull of CRW and I don't have access to many CRW people. BUT when I do it's redneck CRW. Usually the other jumper is on a triatholon 1.5 wl or a semi-eliptical 9 cell ( I know, I fail) roughly the same wingloading. I'm used to wl a canopy at .7, so i'm used to landing off, and backwards :) I'm small so it makes me weary of having alot of weight. In my mind, I would think it's best to get a larger canopy and wear weights to allow for a wider range of people I can jump with?~Always do stupid things safely~
topdocker 0 #5 November 15, 2010 Okay, here's my opinion on this: You need to be jumping gear that you are comfortable exiting, flying, and landing (possibly off the DZ). You need to jump at a weight you are comfortable exiting, flying, and landing (possibly off the DZ). You don't sound like you have a ton of money to buy all sorts of different canopies. Given those parameters, you could use a smaller canopy and wingload up a bit that way and add a few pounds as well (A FEW, like eight). I just cannot suggest you jump a Triathlon 99 at this juncture in your career, or a 107 with a crapload of weight. How about a Tri 120? Change the rear riser links for slightly larger ones? Tell the fat boys to lose some weight? A hint for someone learning CRW: stop using your toggles so much, they create lift and drag, the two enemies of the lighter person. Let the canopy fly more, use your front and rear risers more. Side note: don't put down the "redneck CRW," a lot of national and world champions started that way! topJump more, post less! I thought redneck CRW was having at least one guy in the formation chewing tobaccco? sounds like a whole new thread to me! topJump more, post less! mchamp 1 #8 November 21, 2010 Tell the fat boys to lose some weight? LOL!!Is the typical WL for CRW still @ 1.300 – 1.375? Also are the majority of CRW dogs beginning to migrate towards the storm? For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
faulknerwn 38 #9 November 22, 2010 Competitors are jumping Storms but fun jumpers and big-way jumpers are still on Lightnings. Biggest problem with the Storms is that they are only compatible with other Storms. Lightnings are compatible with Triathlons and Spectres as well - and there are tons of those out there.. And yeah wing-loading of 1.3-1.4 is pretty typical.
