Did my first CRW today!!!

Recommended Posts

Yes I am going to say the F word, I did my first CRW jump today and can I just say...."That was friggin awesome!!!!"

This guy at my DZ found out I was doing a 7,000 ft hop n' pop to play with my canopy and asked if I wanted to do a little CRW. He has heard me mention in the past that I wanted to play around with someone under canopy to get a better idea of what mine was doing with something to relate to. Anyway, I said yes, but under no circumstance are you to touch me, but as the jump got closer I changed my mind and told him he could dock. Wow, was that one of the coolest experiences I have had. We got out, he came up beside me, probably about 40 feet away, and the visual was just amazing, him next to some big puffy clouds with blue above him and below him, I so wish I had stuck a camera in my jumpsuit, because that was just beautiful. So he gets below me and before I know it my feet are on top of his canopy, then my feet go a little in front and I touch his canopy. I will admit, got a little nervous at that point and was like "OK, that's enough" and he seperated, played a little beside me, then was gone.

I am still smiling, can't wait to do it again!!!

I am finally learning not say never in skydiving. I have done a lot of things I said I would "never" do, and this was one of them! Wow, what a great experience!

Beautiful!

You know, one of the 'extra' benefits of CRW for me is enjoying the visuals of canopies in close formation flight. Stark white clouds majestically floating in the background or a clean echelon of canopies dancing back to the formation against the glow of dawn. (Problem with dawn jumps is that you got to get up too damn early) It's always beautiful ...sometimes it takes by breath away.

You might well get some question and responses from others here about canopy types, line types and safety ...and the questions/advice will be worth listening to.

Me? I'm delighted you see the beauty.

Welcome to the dark side.

Awesome description, cannot wait to see it for myself some day!

That would be very welcomed. I am always up for advice and learning. As for this jump, it was my regular rig with a Sabre 190, a little floaty for the guy I was doing the CRW with, but he compensated just fine for me. I am about to order my new canopy which will be a Sabre2 170. I plan on doing a little more of this, it is not really that big at our DZ, but who knows in the future, we did hold our first CRW record attempt this year though, which was successful.

Congratulations!!! WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE:)
.... I'm hooked. Glad you got to try it, and every time, it just keeps getting better and better (even when you don't think it can get any better).
