mazevedo 0 #1 September 4, 2003 Does anybody knows about the Hornet canopie? Who is the manufactor, etc. What do you think about changing one Sabre 170 to a Hornet 170? Thanks and blue skies
skreamer 1 #2 September 4, 2003 This canopy was made by PISA. PISA no longer exists, it was incorporated into Aerodyne and no longer makes Hornets (or Heatwaves, Tempos, Skymasters). I have made about 300 jumps on a Hornet '150 (loaded ~ 1.25:1), but only have a couple of jumps on Sabres. If you are considering buying a Hornet you should be aware that the fact they are no longer manufactured will/should be reflected in the price. Also, if you do buy it you can still get it relined by Aerodyne. Will
AggieDave 6 #3 September 4, 2003 I'm going to add to what was just said. Personally, I think its a great canopy. It doesn't really compare to the original Sabre, since the Hornet is semi-elliptical and the original Sabre isn't. The Sabre2 is a good comparison, though, they fly similar, but are by no means exactly alike. If you do a search, there have been a couple posts that go indepth about the Hornet vs. the Sabre2.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." nicknitro71 0 #8 September 5, 2003 I had a 150 @ 1.1. Great canopy. Now it's called the Pilot, yes they are virtually the same canopy...Memento Audere Semper
riggerrob 643 #9 September 5, 2003 We have four Hornet 190s that we loan to junior or visiting jumpers. They are the most popular canopies in our rental fleet. Hornets are slightly tapered, so they compete with Sabre 2 and Safire.

steve1 5 #11 September 5, 2003 I love my Hornet 170. I now have about 250 jumps on it. A couple years ago they were selling really cheap, if you orderred one from South Africa. I bought mine new for about $400. Actually it was $375. and $50. freight to the states. Those days are long gone, I'm afraid.......Steve1
plankton 0 #12 September 5, 2003 QuoteI had a 150 @ 1.1. Great canopy. Now it's called the Pilot, yes they are virtually the same canopy... I am sure that Pilot is completely different canopy from Hornet. I have made 80 jumps with Hornet 170 (loaded 1.35) and several jumps with Hornet 150 I liked the canopy but now I have Pilot 150 for already 20 jumps and I like it much more. Pilot opens softer and is more toggle responsive. I also tried sabre2 150 and found out that glide angel of Pilot 150 is flatter and Pilot is more toggle responsive as well. jsaxton 0 #13 September 7, 2003 I have over 500 jumps on a Hornet 190 loaded at about 1.2/1. I have never flown a Sabre but I did demo a Sabre2 170. The Sabre2 had a LOT more deep flare but that may have been because it was more heavily loaded.
