f1shlips 2 #1 September 22, 2003 I asked my rigger to add a tail pocket to my Lightning, but she wanted some specific details or at least something more than me just grunting and pointing at the canopy. I searched the forums, but I couldn't find anything. I asked Rusty at PD and he deferred me to the BASE manufacturors implementations (vs PDs). I found a document on the consolidated rigging site on how to attach their tail pocket, but there's nothing about construction. I found a post where Wendy mentioned something about cotton, but I figured that canopy fabric would be the most likely choice. Does anyone have some pictures/ideas/details?-- drop zone (drop'zone) n. faulknerwn 38 #2 September 22, 2003 Basically the way I did mine, was take any kind of durable fabric - really doesn't matter tho nylon/parachute material would be a pain. I attach it along the seem of the tail so it dangles off the back - if you stiched it like it comes from the factory, you'd have to undo the tail and its a pain in the neck. Mine is just attached right along the seam of the tail center cell so it didn't require any canopy disassembly (took ~ 10 minutes to sew it on.) Make some attachment points for rubber bands and you're good to go... Basically it just boils down to a square dangling off the tail with a place to stow rubber bands. lifesatrip 0 #4 October 6, 2003 I am a newbie to CReW. I got a dozen or so jumps in and I was wondering with a tail pocket were does the pilot chute and bridel get connected.
darkvapor 0 #5 October 6, 2003 QuoteI was wondering with a tail pocket were does the pilot chute and bridel get connected. To the top of the canopy, almost like on a non-CRW canopy. On a Lightning, there are 3 rings spaced about 1 foot apart, with the middle ring right at the middle of the canopy. I won't bore you with how the bridle is routed through them, but as your pilot chute inflates, pulls on the bridle, your container opens and the canopy is extracted by the rings at the top. Just as it is on a regular chute. The bridle/PC and tail pocket are independent of each other.
