rendezvous 0 #1 September 2, 2003 I'm trying to understand how the various canopies in the market can be grouped to form groups that represent about the same level of performance. Can some put the more common canopies talked about in some order. Thanks.
PhreeZone 20 #2 September 2, 2003 Student - Manta, Navigator Semi elliptical - Sabre2, Safire Elliptical - Stiletto, Crossfire Crossbraced - Xaos, Velocity 7- cell non elliptical - Spectre, Synergy 7 Cell elliptical - Diablo Reserve Basically you have your Student, then a transition canopy, then a intermediate canopy, advanced then you top out at your Crossbraced canopies.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
skybytch 273 #3 September 2, 2003 Quote7- cell non elliptical - Spectre, Synergy I'd call the Spectre and Synergy 7 cell semi elliptical zp. A 7 cell non elliptical zp would be a Triathlon.
rendezvous 0 #4 September 2, 2003 Would you classify Safire,Saber,Saber2,Hornet as intermidiate. Which others if not these would fit this category.
skygod7777 0 #5 September 3, 2003 student: skymaster, manta, radier, navagater (210 +) intermidiate: sabre 2, sabre, safire, safire 2, omni, omega, hornet, spectre, lotus...... advanced: stilleto, crossfire 1 + 2, heatwave, nitron, vengence, samari.......... high advance (or expert, but i don't call it that, 'cause i'm defintally not one): fx, vx, xaos 21 and 27, velocity (anything crossedbraced) now, what you have to realize also, some of these "intermediate" canopies will become advanced canopies when you load them up, they in fact become quite fun canopies (some of them). same with the advanced, if you load up a crossfire 2 at 1.8 or 1.9, they are pretty high end canopies, same with any of them out there. hope that helps some later
Tonto 1 #6 September 4, 2003 QuoteWould you classify Safire,Saber,Saber2,Hornet as intermidiate. Which others if not these would fit this category. The design of the canopy may make it intermediate, but if you take a Safire and load it to 1.8 - it's going to sing. No doubt there. tIt's the year of the Pig. Remster 30 #7 September 4, 2003 Quotebut if you take a Safire and load it to 1.8 Well, I think that can be said for any canopy..... But, on the basic design of the canopy, I'd say these goups makes sense.... Does anyone have the (I think it was Netherlands) canopy classes? Or was it a Northern Europe contry.....Remster
Tonto 1 #8 September 4, 2003 We're not worthy! We're not worthy! So now you know everything! I was thinking about learning Canadian. But then I thought "Nah!" I just wanted to point out that design is only part of the picture. I don't want some poor sod to load his Triathlon to 1.6 and think that's fine cos he's a beginer. tIt's the year of the Pig. rendezvous 0 #10 September 4, 2003 Thanks. That gives me a bette perspective on how the various canopies are placed in the market.
ScratchTX 0 #11 September 4, 2003 Do you know why the Spectre is in Category 2, but the Triathlon is in Category 3? If anything, the Spectre's slight elliptical shape makes it turn a little steeper/faster. But really, they both seem quite similar in terms of general "performance" issues as they apply to experience level. I'd think those issues would be things like stability on opening, speed/dive of turns, response to riser pressure and toggle input... they are pretty close on those from what I could tell. Minor differences only. Do you know what the criteria were for classifying the canopies in this list?
