ernokaikkonen 0 #1 August 27, 2003 I'm considering buying a Vector 3 for my next container(sometime in the distant future...). After reading through the owner's manual, I came up with a few questions: Vector3 and "lazy bags"? Is the V3 compatible with any stowless D-bags? Has it been tested with any? Any possible complications if I just decide to install one? Trulok toggles, why metal pin? What's the advantage of having a metal pin instead of a stiffened bit of the toggle material, like on many other rigs? Side flap closing order. The side flaps are closed right-left. I assume this is because of the chance that the bridle might snag under the right flap if they were closed left-right? 3-ring maintenance every three months? I know this varies with the amount of jumps that are being done on the system, and the conditions that the system is being jumped in. Many people recommend 3-ring maintenance every 30 days, do you think that would be overdoing it? PC folding method in a different thread

Any possible complications if I just decide to install one? Doubt if they tested it. Bill may be coming up with their own. In general over the years main bags have been readily changed. Biggest concern would be fit of the bag and look of the rig when closed. I'm sure RW will recommend their bag. Trulok toggles, why metal pin? What's the advantage of having a metal pin instead of a stiffened bit of the toggle material, like on many other rigs? Hmmm I don't know. I asked this question. RW believes it is a better system. My first impression was why go back to a metal pin on something in your hand during landing. You have to decide on whether you like it. Side flap closing order. The side flaps are closed right-left. I assume this is because of the chance that the bridle might snag under the right flap if they were closed left-right? Notice the grommet on flap one, the top main flap, is off center to the right. This is to line it up with the next flap, the right flap. Also notice that the side flap gromments do not stack up when closed. This is the intended design and Vectors have been that way for a long time. 3-ring maintenance every three months? I know this varies with the amount of jumps that are being done on the system, and the conditions that the system is being jumped in. Many people recommend 3-ring maintenance every 30 days, do you think that would be overdoing it? Most of the manufacturers have had RW's 3 ring maintenance recommendations in their manuals since Bill invented it. It's been every month for years. I didn't even realize that RW had changed the recommendation to 3 months in the V3 manual. Look at the Tandem Vector 2 manual on line and you'll see one month recommended. Hey Bill, why the change? Of course I don't think there is one of my rigging customers that actually do it. PC folding method in a different thread I expect that RW will respond soon. TerryI'm old for my age. webracer 0 #3 August 27, 2003 I haven't heard stowless d-bags referred to as lazy bags until this time. I feel they will require the same time and attention as a normal d-bag. I have seen them and seen them packed. Also mixing d-bags is generally not recommended, but many folks do (including myself... I have an Odyssey with two mains setup (for that rig) on risers w/ dbags/pilotchutes to switch out easily, both in Mirage d-bags because I like them better than sunpath's bags). Trulok toggles. I have switched all my rigs to RW risers. I like the housings, and the toggles. I am not sure if the metal pin is actually better, but it isn't causing any problems. Closing order, like another person responded, RW does offset the grommets on at least one flap. Unlike most other rigs, I feel it is important to close a RW rig in proper order l-r. I do three ring maint. every repack and everytime I switch canopies (fairly often, at least once/month...sometimes each day). I do not spin the rings individually. Hope this helps (maybe my .02 is worth .03 these days).Troy I am now free to exercise my downward mobility.

I have seen a couple of toggles with the stiffened bit of toggle material (wings pic), and I really dun like it that much, it gets kinda soft in time and some of them the stitch starts to wear and gets softer making it a lil bit more difficult to set. QuoteSide flap closing order. The side flaps are closed right-left. I assume this is because of the chance that the bridle might snag under the right flap if they were closed left-right? Thats how everybody closes theyr infinity and I haven't heard of any problems by doing it. Quote3-ring maintenance every three months? Many people recommend 3-ring maintenance every 30 days, do you think that would be overdoing it? I do that every 120 days, and everybody at my dz does it every 120 days (when they repack the reserve) and its been working ok, have a friend that had a cutaway with reverse risers and it went fine (had a line twists spinning stilletto). If you feel safer doing it every 30 days, by all means do it. HISPA 21 www.panamafreefall.com
