What to do with wet rig?

Recommended Posts

I just had a small flood in our basement and my rig was sitting up on the floor. The whole bottom of it (main canopy and BOC) was soaked. Ive opened it up and layed the whole thing out. Is there anything I need to be concerned about. The lines are compoletely drenched. How bad is this going to be for them and the canopy itself? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

If you're certain the water is localized to the main portion only and if the water is clean (meaning non salt) , then just let it dry. It's only water and your parachute equipment is nylon.

If the reserve portion got wet, especially if you have a Cypres, you better open it up too.

Rigs get wet all the time. Especially at swoop meets.

If it was in your basement, odds are there is probably some funky stuff in the water (oils, fuels, etc.). I would recommend rinsing the contaminated areas thoroughly with clean water, then just hang it in front of a fan and let it dry.

Water isn't great for rigs, but it's certainly not going to destroy them...petroleum products on the other hand...

As was already said, if the reserve section got at all wet, you'll want to dump the reserve and get the AAD out of it right away...
