teaching/learning HD

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm currently a HD wannabe. Ive had some HD coaching using the second method, and am now fumbling around some on my own on some dives. coming season I want to invest some more in coaching, but I wonder what kind of training will get me there fastest.

What you need is:

1) Forget about the money
2) Go somewhere warm
3) Do a whole bunch of coached jumps with an instructor over a few days, but not more than 6/8 a day. You'll need a whole load more than you think to nail head-down!

Oh, and btw, if after taking you out on a jump the coach suggests that you should spend a season on your feet and come back next year, do so.

Just an offering -

I found I had alot of luck going on a solo (with a TON of ground briefing about exit, good form, butt tight, transition from sit, etc.) just to get an idea for the feel of an orientation - then doing a 2 way where my "coach" took harness grips and provided small inputs to let me "feel vertical" as well as forward drive and backward drive.

Then I took out another solo (instructions to try to feel neutral - and then push legs forward and backward slowly to feel what not-neutral felt like on my own...then back out with the "coach"....and so on, adding new techniques each time...

I'm still learning a ton, and am nowhere near "good", but it seems I've had a more relaxed and comfortable progression than those people who have always done 2-ways with harness grips...you really do need to get a chance to "feel" it on your own or else it seems you're really on your back alot...(head being the only thing thats head-down)

Just a thought
- ever the spazz

Your work is to discover your world, and then with all your heart, give yourself to it...
