bgy8nas 0 #1 August 22, 2003 I am researching reserve canopies at the mo as I am trying to build a rig and was thinking of getting one second hand to save money. But I have found that paractecs "speed" reserve is not only relatively cheap but also has a v small pack volume which sounds like a bonus. Does anyone know why the pack volume is so small and can anyone recommend the speed reserve. Cheers Nick

badlock 0 #3 August 22, 2003 Here in germany the speed is the most popular reserve. One of the best freefly teams in the world (Free Flight Paratec, 3rd @ wolrd cup, European champions & German champions) use them. My rigger said to me, that he could only recommend two reserves on the market: The Speed and the PD. He said, the Speed were more high speed testet than any other reserve on the market, tested with about 439 lbs. And it would fly like a very safe main canopy. I've ordered one of them (170). Check out the manufacturers website: www.paratec.de Don't be a Lutz!

The only way you're going to decrease pack volume is to decrease the amount of material in the parachute. Not such a great idea on reserves, I think. PhreeZone 20 #6 August 22, 2003 You can also lower some of the volume by substituting materials. Like the Techno reserve uses Specta lines as reinforement instead of the bulkier tapes that are on the PD reserve. Other ways are using Microline instead of Dacron for the lines.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Chrisky 0 #7 August 24, 2003 The Speed uses a new and improved material, beeing sold exclusively to Paratec for about the next three(?) years. It packs smaller, even if its more sqft. I've seen the factory (for the Reserves) and i own a Speed 2000 135sqft now. I personally think they're the best ones out there. I personally know some people working for Paratec and can tell that the numbers they state are the safe ones, they test their stuff way beyond that. I've spoken to the test jumpers and once you have talked to someone who did 20+ jumps on the Speed for testing beyond specs and then compare that to threads about other reserves stalling inside the specs, you know you want a Speed. I didn't know much about Paratec until i got to know them and i can tell you they are serious about what they do. The Speed is a very good Reserve. Also check out their new Faqtor canopy, i got me a custom 120 which was delivered within 4 weeks(!). And it ROCKS! Sounds like an ad, but i'm really convinced by their stuff from my own experience. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ...
