Tatusik 0 #1 August 21, 2003 Could somebody give me any information about Blade Runner canopy. I was offered this canopy, but unfortunately could not find the information in the inet. Thank you in advance Tatusik.
tocas 0 #2 August 22, 2003 QuoteI put over 300 jumps on a 150. I really liked the canopy. A lot of people will tell you it's the same as a Stiletto. People that have flown both (like me) know that the Blade Runner is trimmed steeper. When I had mine, I used to play end cell bumping games with a buddy under a Stiletto 135, and the two canopies had very similar speed and descent (and yes, he was about the same weight). Turns are Stiletto snappy, way faster than my current Crossfire 119. Openings are also similar to a Stiletto, soft but often off heading. I never twisted mine up, but I was only loading it at about 1.4 They were made in South Africa and were built with the Gelvesnor ZP - so easy packing. If you can get a good deal on one, and are elliptical zp ready, go for it. Everybody I know who has/had one liked it. The only people I've heard bad mouth them are the people who spent more on a Stiletto and got (in my opinion) less of a canopy. Canuck Blade Runner was made by Chute Shop. First ones hit the market in 94 I think, it has since been replaced with a canopy called the Huricane. I can't remeber their web address - but I know they have one. Canuck ***I have a Blade Runner 135 as a second rig and ~100 jumps on it, my primary rig has a Stiletto 135 and I have ~750 jumps on it. Here is my take on the Blade Runer as compared to the stiletto, btw. both are loaded ~1.5:1 Packing similar but I roll the nose; on the BR it also packs up slightly bigger. Openings faster by a bit (harder), doesn’t like to always open on heading, specifically after inflation it will like to spin and be unstable until the brakes are released (I’m working on changing the brakes settings gradually to help solve this). Full flight, similar a little more ground hungry. Toggle Turns, more responsive it can really get going. Front Riser turns, I don’t notice any difference. Landings, about the same, but being a little more ground hungry the flare timing is a little more critical I find. Price, well I picked mine up for $200 USD. Overall I like it; I like my stiletto more, due to the twitch openings on the BR and I have considerable more jumps on the Stil. So I’m more comfortable on it. Tonto 1 #3 August 22, 2003 They don't like front riser turns... and if you insist on doing them, please ensure that your brakes are set up not to interfere during the turn. tIt's the year of the Pig.
meatmissile 0 #4 August 23, 2003 edit to add: My wife is Russian. PM (Private Message) me if you want any information in this thread translated into Russian. I jump a bladerunner 150 main, and my last 180-odd jumps were mostly made with this canopy. The bladerunner was first marketed in 1995 or end 94 if I remember correctly. I have tried several other canopies, but for some or other reason I enjoy the bladerunner more. When you buy one, be sure to check that the steering lines are only connected to the canopy in four places on each side (compulsory modification). This mod was required (as I understand) to get rid of some bad off-heading openings encountered with the original five-line setup. I have triple risers installed on mine (not really necessary), but I have long arms, and have found that the triple risers make for less "restricted" steering. I have found (in agreement with Tonto) that front risers are left well alone on this canopy, but then again, the performance is such that you don't really need them. I think what keeps me jumping my blade is the fact that it is easy to get out of situations with. You can level out and change it from a radical elliptical canopy into a docile canopy in a heartbeat. -- ZZZzzzz....
potatoman 0 #5 June 14, 2004 I recently got myself one of the first Blade Runners ever made. Though the canopy is in very good nick, I find that it still has the 5 line brake configuration. Which of the lines should go and which should stay? I spoke to my rigger, and he has never done this from before(on a blade), and is not willing to make changes that he is not sure of. Can anyone help. You have the right to your opinion, and I have the right to tell you how Fu***** stupid it is.
