flait 0 #1 June 2, 2004 I feel quite comfortable headdown, I can manage some carving, eagles, etc. My forward and backward movement is fine, I stay on level etc, but I want to make sure I am doing it in the best way I can for the future. Should I be moving using my hips? Pushing with my arms? Pushing with my legs? or all of them? I know its probably different depending on how fast I want to move but what is the best technique for this? How do you guys do it? Thanks
jose 0 #2 June 2, 2004 I am not an expert at this, but I can tell you that using large parts of your body for movement when your close isnt as good as using your head. I have found that once on level with my partner, if I am relatively close I use my nose to edge in and out. What I mean is keeping my whole body flying the pipe, and if I want to go forward nice and controlled, I stick my nose out. This will wash air off the back of my neck and push me forward very controlled for hand docks and stinging the base and such. The reverse head movement for backing up slightly. The rest of the large driving movements, I really dont think about, my body just goes where I want it to. The only thing that I have been concentrating on lately is controlling my orbit with my hips. stuffit 0 #3 June 3, 2004 I would be real careful using your hips for fine tuned, "in close to your partner" movements, especially if you are flying your legs out to your sides instead of daffy. I am not speaking anything to your experience level bec. i dont know you but you could get in some serious trouble making movements with large parts of your body when you are close to someone. When I want to make precise, small movements, I will use my lower leg(calf) and foot. This has been safe and has worked well for me. Of course, I dont have very many jumps so I would want to hear from someone with lots of jumps.
