grega 0 #1 April 8, 2004 How do you guys practice a jump on the ground. whether it's a competition jump or just a training. I found it's very useful if you mentally and physically (as much as you can) prepare yourself for the jump on the ground already, even before you have your rig on. So how do you guys do it?"George just lucky i guess!"
WrongWay 0 #2 April 8, 2004 I personally like dirt diving. It always helps to provide a visual on the ground of where people will be in the air, and it gives everyone a clear view of what the goal is in the sky. Still, sometimes I'll get shit for it from other ffreeflyers cuz "freeflyers aren't supposed to dirt dive". They're missing out. freeflybella 0 #3 April 8, 2004 Quotesometimes I'll get shit for it from other freeflyers cuz "freeflyers aren't supposed to dirt dive" That's just plain silly. (I know you, WW, were only quoting what others have said) Dirt diving is an integral part of every skydive, no matter what discipline. It gets tricky sometimes when you have multiple orientation big-ways - but they need to happen. And they happen just like belly dirt dives - only with a bit of imagination and a little extra visualization required. Dive planning, muscle-memory, repitition, visualization of dive and jumpsuits, discussions of exit and break-off...why would any of this be less important for freefly? If anything, I'd say it could be argued to be more important due to the higher speeds and incidents of corking or zooming. Any ff'er who says no to a dirt dive is effectively saying "Put your life in my hands and trust that I can read your mind." WrongWay 0 #4 April 8, 2004 QuoteIt gets tricky sometimes when you have multiple orientation big-ways - Yeah it's pretty embarrassing dirt diving between two sitflyers thinking "this is where I'll be", then getting in the air and going to the wrong side of the formation...... Been there, done that. Hahahaha!!! Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails.
karenmeal 0 #5 April 8, 2004 I've found the use of dolls is helpful with doing a freefly dirtdive. I like to use a barney doll personally. "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham
freeflybella 0 #6 April 8, 2004 That happened to me once - it was a 12-way. There were two sitflyers facing off and 4 on our heads at the 'corners' of the sitflyers. I was one of the 'corner' people head down. Luckily, the other head down person to my left also got it wrong - and we just switched places! Funny (or not so funny) that no one noticed! The other person I switched with didn't even realize it until I mentioned it after the jump. And it took alot of convincing!!!! edited: the dolls work great when trying to plan a dive - but doesn't help me much in 'visualizing' what my body will do in the air. Would you mind explaining that, because i've never heard of a dirtdive with dolls. i mean how do you do it, you just put a doll where another person should be or ???"George just lucky i guess!" rehmwa 2 #8 April 9, 2004 QuoteYeah it's pretty embarrassing dirt diving between two sitflyers thinking "this is where I'll be", then getting in the air and going to the wrong side of the formation...... Been there, done that. Hahahaha!!! perspective and visualization is huge in RW, and more so in FF with people on different axis. What about keeping a small mirror you can look through or a prism (no, I'm really serious) for dirtdiving when people have to plan to be inverted from each other? I suspect the mental challenge will be huge on complex large FF dives or busy point turning smaller FF dives. ...
