karenmeal 0 #2 February 19, 2004 the pie plate.. or pizza delivery boy look.. or whatever you want to call it... is when you have your hands up by your ears instead of lower, down by your waist. You want to learn to fly with your arms lower down and more relaxed so that you're not flying in a maxxed out position all the time. Keep in mind that it is really hard to take docks when your arms are way up high. When you teach yourself to depend on your legs for fall rate control and stability then it frees up your arms to do other things. Probably should find someone on the DZ to do some coaching with you. Head down is pretty hard to tackle unless you have someone critiquing your body position and/or doing video. ccowden 0 #3 February 19, 2004 It is when your palms are facing earth and above or level with your head, as if you are pushing down on the wind. The type of posture a waiter would have carrying a tray or delivering a pizza (pie). Yes you want to avoid this. It means you are flying way too much with your arms and are trying to 'hold' yourself with your hands and arms. Try to keep your arms relaxed and your hands below your shoulders. You can also try turning your palms towards the sky. This will take away the tendency to want to fly with your hands.
rehmwa 2 #4 February 19, 2004 Good stuff. I really tend to carry the pizza as I go through a dive. It's hard not to keep pressing up (or down? anyway). I can start with hands low, but they seems to just creep up as I go - surprise, I get less and less smooth as the dive goes - (and it doesn't necessarily start that pretty.) Really should spend a season on FF........or at least HD ...
