Caseadilla 0 #1 December 9, 2003 I have searched this forum and can't find much on turning while inverted. I can do slow turns but when I try and go fast I always end up unstable. I think I am just using my hands and turning my head. I am guessing I can use my feet as well? Maybe position my hands and arms so that they catch air and spin me in the same direction. hookitt 1 #2 December 9, 2003 Just turn... seriously. To simulate it, stand on the ground in the head down position you use and twist the direction you wish to go. If you're getting unstable, you're probably flying more on your shoulders than with your legs. Transfer that energy to the legs. Stand up on the ground with your legs wide knees straight (not locked) Keep your toes forward but not unnaturally forward. Then press your feet outward like you're trying to slide off the soles of your shoes. Do that excersize often. Do it any time your standing around. It will strengthen your legs and train them so you don't have to think about it in the air.My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... partyboy 0 #3 December 9, 2003 ok, well, I am having the same problem as casedilla is and I tried the excersise as well, but so do you need to like push your legs back, and then kinda twist them or standing up in a twist like form is actually the way to turn, srry, but a bit confused on that explanation... Caseadilla 0 #4 December 9, 2003 I want to be able to crank 360's fast. Eventually being able to helicopter super fast. There has to be more to it than "just turn". Im sure that is a big part of it but what are some turning techniques?
ianmdrennan 2 #5 December 9, 2003 Watch Alaska John do a turn. He turns the lower half of his body as far as it will go before whipping his torso around for cranking a 360. OzoneJunkie 0 #6 December 9, 2003 Hey, I know you asked me to post some tips on this, so I did so, in the other thread (FREEFLY TIPS). Hope this helps :) http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=786811
hookitt 1 #7 December 9, 2003 Simulate that by what I mentioned above... Stand there and twist, it's the same thing. HD is NOT all legs.. it's just leg dominant. Oh.. and the tips from ozone.. those are pretty good too :)My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
WrongWay 0 #8 December 9, 2003 Listen to the crazy masked man and the retarded kid in the wheelchair. They know what they're talking about. The way I was always told to do it when I started flying on my head was to just look in the direction you wanna turn. That'll make your turn semi-smoothly, and you'll be able to spot the end of the turn easier as well. If you wanna do fast spins like you said, look at Eli Thompson on any vid of the Flyboyz. He jets out his legs all the way for stability, then makes the turn, and to accelerate it, puts his hands at about waist level, one palm up, one down. This creates almost a prop of your hands, turning you faster. Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails. davelepka 4 #10 December 9, 2003 You need to be able to 'just turn' before you can helicopter. Work on controlled turns at a steady pace. Once you have that, slowly introduce some speed. A helicopter like Eli from the flyboys is different than a fast turn. It's a dedicated body position thats really not good for anything else. If you watch him on video, you'll never see him use that body position for simple turns. In fact you really don't see much body movement at all when he does a regular turn, he seems to 'just turn'. Go figure.
OzoneJunkie 0 #11 December 9, 2003 Since everyone flies differently, I'm not gonna outright disagree with: Quote A helicopter like Eli from the flyboys is different than a fast turn. It's a dedicated body position thats really not good for anything else. I definately use pieces of my helicopter technique for doing single 360s. Namely, besides twisting, I use my arms and legs, but in a less exagerated form than my helicopter. It definately makes my 360s faster than just twisting, for me. EDIT: ok, my bad, you did say, for just a simple turn. Yep, gonna agree with that - for a simple turn (less than 360) I only twist. My apologies. 78RATS 0 #12 December 9, 2003 Try this: Lay flat on your back with legs in the froggy position and arms at a neutral position at your sides. Physically press down on the ground on your right hand side with your right arm and your right leg. Keep the legs in a strong spread position. If you repeat this in the air while head down it will produce a clean and swift left hand 360. Credit goes to Sean Simon - Orbit Punks.
