The111 1 #1 December 3, 2003 I've been doing a lot of sit/stand jumps since I'm not quite ready for HD yet. Sometimes I like to see how long I can hold a fast stand. Usually about 5-10 seconds after I max out my arms (over my head) I lose it... I'm pretty sure I'm still accelerating, and the faster I go the harder it is to maintain. According to my Pro-Track I usually hit about 180mph. I think I could go higher if I could maintain my balance at that speed... I've seen numbers ranging from 200-300+mph for people's best HD speeds... wondering if anyone knows their best stand speed. :) EDIT: I'm a pretty tall skinny guy... floaty in general. Was wearing baggy FF suit.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
wildcard451 0 #2 December 3, 2003 Just tried that one this weekend. All I could get was 196 in about three layers of clothing. However, I know I can go faster if I could hold it longer, didn't even get my hands all the way up. Plus, I'm still way new at this. Should be able to get faster, being that I am 6' 240 out the door. Will try again in the future. /B
Staso 0 #3 December 3, 2003 Marianne Cotrin is one of the speed skydivers who competes in a stand. As far as I know, she is the only one who does that. Currently she holds the Brazilian record at 368 km/h which is about 230 mph. note, that it's average over 1 km, the max could be around 240-250 mph. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... VectorBoy 0 #4 December 4, 2003 I've done 205 mph true but the protrac was on my head obviously in a whole body burble. I was not trying for speed just trying to catch some big boys.
The111 1 #5 December 4, 2003 Yeh my PT is in my head (well, helmet) too... I wonder how much inaccuracy that causes. Need to buy a second Dytter and put the PT on my lateral webbing... anyone know of any good pics showing how that mount should look? I have a Vector...www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Need to buy a second Dytter and put the PT on my lateral webbing... anyone know of any good pics showing how that mount should look? I have a Vector... inaccuracy of PT in helmet will increase greatly with speed. if you see very smooth curve in jumptrack software, it means that results are fake. some people get negative speed sometimes or even negative deployment altitude. but we're talking about speed approaching 300 mph in first place. even in track, going about 100 mph, if you turn your head you can get spikes up to 200 mph. so far best place is considered laterals. and one should have 2 PTs on both sides and speed should be averaged and if difference is too high, it's fake again. the easiest way to put PT on lateral is to use zip ties and secure PR cradle on the webbing. it doesn't hurt to put elastic around cradle before you attach it and secure PT with that elastic. after all you don't want to lose $300 worth piece of equipment :) if you need more info on how to secure PT on lateral, let me know. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... The111 1 #7 December 8, 2003 Quoteif you need more info on how to secure PT on lateral, let me know. Actually I'd love a picture if you could provide that, although I think I'm pretty sure what you mean. Look at the picture I attached to be sure I understand what the lateral webbing is. I don't have the JumpTrack software (though I'll probably get it very soon), so I don't know what my graph looks like, but this weekend I hit 190mph, then 200mph and was very proud of myself, then the next two jumps which felt just as fast, I only hit 170mph... so I'm thinking my helmet mount is probably messing things up.www.WingsuitPhotos.com
Staso 0 #8 December 8, 2003 you're right about the laterals, that's where it should be. i can't find a picture right now but if i do, i'll post it. stan. -- it's not about defying gravity; it's how hard you can abuse it. speed skydiving it is ... sunnydee123 0 #9 December 8, 2003 wasn't it cool as hell to be the only freefliers around this Saturday - well, the only ones who seemed to be playing in the cooler weather or the only ones NOT taking the canopy class with Scott (been there, done that! ).....We had Chris Lynch all to ourselves for load organizing! See ya sgain soon.... Dreams become reality, one choice at a time...
The111 1 #10 December 8, 2003 Yeh, right after you left he did one last jump with me... I assumed it would be more of him making me chase him in a sit and follow the leader type stuff... but out of nowhere he goes head down and starts carving around me hella fast. Outside of video, I've only seen someone fly headdown once or twice and that wasn't right in my face. He was less than 10 feet from me the whole time and I was able to turn my sit fast enough (though I eventually started slipping onto my back a bit) to keep eye contact with him the whole time, for several complete 360 carves... I was shitting my pants, it was by far the coolest thing I've ever seen in a jump and definitely inspired me to keep freeflying no matter how hard it gets. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
sunnydee123 0 #11 December 8, 2003 well cool for you....he musta been getting bored with your sit flying ...but just imagine trying to LEARN headdown and have him right there in your face. It's cool but I'm always worried I'm gonna crash into them - as if they would let that happen ......Keep working on it my friend - maybe next time we can make a jump all together! muffmuffmuff 0 #12 December 22, 2003 Yahoooo......just my 2 cents worth or worthless! I have tried to max out my standup speeds. My form is to go into the stand with arms out and then after 5 seconds or so of acceleration, I slowly bring my arms together over my head. It seems to work for me. I hit the mid 260's regularly and my best was 287. And believe me, everything is cranked down tight. Muffmuffmuff....funfunfun......yahooooo!
