TattooedMoFo 0 #26 November 10, 2003 QuoteJust because you are good at something, doesn't necessarily mean you're good at teaching it. Here lies the problem. Everyone who has great FF skills should not make the assumption that they can teach others what they know for profit. Sure there are some who can but that percentage is small in comparison the ones who think they can. Let's face it, there are plenty of world class freeflyers out there that fail to impress me with their "coaching" skills. These are just my opinions and in no way am I singling out anyone. I've had maybe 7 different FF coaches and 1-2 where impressive. But someone who I feel was not a good coach might be great for you. Personalities play an important role in learning. I agree totally with you, i did some coaching with Wolf ( Babylon) at Empuria and as good as he is he couldn't coach for sh*t, then i've had the pleasure of getting coach jumps with Max Cohn and Patrick (Generation freefly) and Max is awesome, had me doing stuff I didn't think I was at a level to do, but we made it look easy. If there are a few guys that are looking to do some coaching you can get Max to comeout to where you are and he will coach you, provided it fits in with his plans, but it will cost you. If you are planning to get some coachin at the Swedish Freefly festival next year, that's a good idea, becaus ethey have such a range of Coaches that they cater for everyones needs and skill level, coach jumps were not expensive either I think about SEK450. grega 0 #27 November 10, 2003 I totally agree that someone can fly awesome but can't coach at all. I've seen it here with RW coaching... But different people like different kind of coaching. Some like army style, others baby style,... So different people have different opinions about someones ability to coach. So i guess my question changes to How much for a great flyer that knows how to coach. I really wouldn't want to pay 2 tickets and extra $20 or $30 for someone that would only fly with me but couldn't really tell me, in an efficient way, what am i doing wrong or how to improve my flying. so keep posting good experiences with coaches and what's his or her price. And don't forget to mention if you had, or heard of any bad experience with someone, like that he was barely flying with you or that he doesn't know how to coach... Thanks"George just lucky i guess!" freeflybella 0 #28 November 10, 2003 QuoteI totally agree that someone can fly awesome but can't coach at all. While I understand what you guys are saying here, it's a bit unfair. There may be an awesome freeflyer out there who wants to coach but just plain lacks the teaching skills - but my guess is that it is mostly a personality issue (as grega describes). I was lucky enough (7 years ago) to get coaching from 2 of the best freeflyers/pioneers in the sport (no, not Olav). One of them, I did not click with at all. He was a great guy and I wanted to learn from him but he had a very aggressive approach, described things technically that I couldn't translate in the air, etc. The other had more of a 'zen' approach. I learned emotionally what to do with my body in the air. It clicked immediately. But that's not to say that my first coach was a bad teacher. He's a great teacher - I just needed a different style of teaching. I always recommend to students to look for a coach that fits your learning style. As to the original question, I think it has been answered. The standard (for the U.S.) is between $65-75 per single jump. That should include detailed pre- and debrief and video. edited: Most schools give jump package discounts. As far as where to start looking for a coach, I would recommend going to the best you can find. Who's flying do you admire? (If he/they have a school) Go there. If you can't afford alot, explain to him your situation, do as many jumps as you can afford and hopefully he'll give you tons and tons of advice and drills to practice. (Good coaches care about inspiring you to fly and helping you achieve your goals) Good Luck! Action expresses priority. - Mahatma Ghandi
