Is this a good deal?

Recommended Posts

I appreciate any help you can give a newbie. I am looking at a used rig as follows:
- Mirage M6 container DOM 98
- Sabre 190 Main DOM 97
- Raven 3 Reserve
- Cypres

Overall, the rig looks like a great deal at $2300. However, the owner says it hasn't been jumped in over two years. Is this a concern? What should I watch out for. Of course, i would have the whole setup inspected by a rigger before jumping it, but it's not practical to do that before buying. Also, I have a felling this will move fast, so I'm trying to get some quick feedback.

I'm new to the sport, so I appreciate the input of any old hands out there. Thanks!

Its certainly practical to have it inspected before buying.
I wouldnt suggest doing it any other way.

Have the seller ship it to your rigger for inspection BEFORE you send money. Lots of riggers will be willing to be the middle guy here.
If the seller takes issue with having it inspected first he may have something to hide.

Good advice from Blahr,
Get your dz (or rigger) to middle the transaction(if it is a shipping transaction) which protects you and the seller. Get the rig inspected before you buy, you then have all the info to make a responsible decision (at least with regards to equipment condition).

It sounds similar to a deal I got a year ago; also not jumped in a year or so. I'm very happy with my rig. But I agree entirely about the inspection. Also, some shippers are much more comfortable with shipping the rig to either a rigger or the drop zone -- shipping it to a third party can offer some feeling of protection for one's rather large investment.

That sounds like a really good price, as long as the Cypres isn't really old. I'd say even if it needs a 4 or 8 year check, that's a fair price. If it hasn't been jumped in over 2 years, you'll probably need to put batteries in the Cypres right away.

Good luck!
