WrongWay 0 #1 August 18, 2003 Question: I'm wondering if there's any way to get my head down slower. I've jet out my legs as far as I could get them, and for awhile there I could get it pretty slow (lower 140's), but it seems like either my legs are getting weaker or I've lost that leg positioning and forgot what the hell I was doing to pull off the slow speeds, and I'm now cranking out at like 155-160-165, not good! If anybody could throw me a bone here, I'd appreciate it!! http://www.skydivewrongway.com Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails. WrongWay 0 #3 August 18, 2003 Damn dude, that's wicked fast!! If I could give some advice, on your pic it looks like your legs are tucked under you, taking away some surface area. Try getting them out just a little bit in front of you. If you're backsliding this should fix that too. You wanna talk about fast fall rates, just yesterday a buddy of mine hit 162 on his belly!!!! (He's a big boy.....) Well, hope that helps. If anybody can give me some tips on the head down fall rate thing, drop me a line!! I'm gonna start working out doing butterflies and running and stuff to strengthen my legs a bit, but I'm wondering if it's just my technique. Any help would be great, thanks!!! http://www.skydivewrongway.com Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails. Any help would be great, thanks!!! I wouldn't worry about sheer strength in your legs... a little goes a long way, if you use it efficiently. Besides, the best workout would be, um... skydiving slow.. After a day of head down formation flying my lower back and glutes are quite sore. It's definitely not in the quads and calves as much. Get some coaching. Do some drill dives with a friend. Experiment with different leg positions. Also keep in mind that when you are on an intimidating dive.. a bigger formation than you are used to, flying with some hotshot freeflier you want to impress, or with a skyball, etc.... often the first thing to go is fall rate control.. so mental and physical relaxation makes a big difference. That's why sometimes it just seems so easy and at others it's completely elusive.
jsyslo 0 #5 August 20, 2003 Amen, bro. Fast HD myself, not much advise per se, but search this forum for "Daffy", youll find some interesting ideas on how to slow down. Are you flying froggy or daffy?Blue Skies!
WrongWay 0 #6 August 20, 2003 I fly froggy. I considered learning daffy, but it's much less manueverable, and I don't like that. I think I figured out what my problem was, but I'm not sure, as I figured this out from watching video. I think I need to push my hips a bit more forward, thus allowing my legs to spread out not only farther but more comfortably, and anybody who flies head down knows that just a few inches can mean wicked speed change. This is only a theory, but hey, it's still a start right? I'm really not sure what my problem has been. It's like I could fly WAY slow, and then just lost it. I just need a little more muscle memory. What about you? Do you fly froggy or daffy??? Wrong Way D #27371 Mal Manera Rodriguez Cajun Chicken Ø Hellfish #451 The wiser wolf prevails.
jsyslo 0 #7 August 20, 2003 Flyin Froggy regularly and real steady....learning daffy, defenatley slower, but for me not quite as stable....(backslide, probably upper body arch tryin to reach back n put that rear foot out back). Every jump gets better though, and a little slower :)Blue Skies!
Zenister 0 #8 August 20, 2003 QuoteI fly froggy. I considered learning daffy, but it's much less manueverable its not less maneuverable, it maneuvers differently but it can be much slower, simply because its easier to get all 4 wings in clean air to create drag, which also affects your maneuverability.. there is very little you cant do daffy that you can froggy. Just like anything else you have to learn to compensate for the differences, the only real way to do that is try (and get some good critique/coaching)____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
