Chrisky 2 #1 August 6, 2003 Hi everybody, i'm moving to Vancouver next week and just got me a new main, reserve and cypres 2 here in germany. I also ordered a Javelin Odyssey. Now i'd like to know if there are any special things i need to regard when i'll have this all put together in Canada (or the US). Any Info? Does anyone know if i have to pay customs fees on the stuff? TIA, Blues, ChrisThe mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... riggerrob 643 #2 August 6, 2003 You may be able to get your gear into Canada duty-free and tax-free if you describe it as "settlers' effects" to Canada Customs. As for assembling your gear, just bring it to me in Pitt Meadows.
Chrisky 2 #3 August 6, 2003 Good to have a contact on jumping there now. How much are the tickets? What's standard drop altitude? Can't wait to get there. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ... Snowbird 0 #4 August 6, 2003 You'll love BC! This is a gorgeous place to live. Pitt Meadows has bigger planes to get you to 13,000, but I think most of the other dz's only have Cessnas, so expect 9500. If you ever head inland from Vancouver, drop by Vernon and say hi. It's beautiful here, and the view from 10,000 is awesome! Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Remster 30 #5 August 6, 2003 As Rob said, as long as you have possession of the gear prior to leaving Germany, you can claim it as your personnl effects you are moving to Canada. It would be a stretch of the truth as you would need to have had it and used it for at least 6 months (as I recall, we just moved back from the UK) for it to be 100% by the book. PM me if you want details...Remster
riggerrob 643 #6 August 7, 2003 Jump tickets - at Canadian DZs - range from CAN$18 to $32 depending upon whether it is a low load (3,000 feet) or a high load (12,500 feet).

Chrisky 2 #9 August 20, 2003 Right on, Dudes.Just arrived two days ago and need to get organized. The airline left my baggage with my main and reserve canopies (both brand new!), helmet AND Camera in Amsterdam and i only got the stuff yesterday evening! You saw someone sweating there, i can tell you! But everything arrived alright in the end. At what times is Pitt Meadows operating? All week or just Weekends, and if weekends, starting friday or saturday? Do they have rental rigs at reasonable prices and in reasonable sizes? (I've only recently downsized to a 120 and wouldn't really want one of these 210 student bricks...) Cya there soon! The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 174fps 1 #10 August 20, 2003 Give them a call (604)465 7311 their website says 7 days a week. though I expect they will need enough jumpers weekdays for the King Air to fly. Ian and Debbie are really nice people you will enjoy it there.
riggerrob 643 #11 August 20, 2003 Pitt Meadows has rental rigs with 290, 230, 190 and 170 square foot mains. Obivously the 290s are for first jump students. We have a pair of rental rigs with Skymaster 230 mains. The Hornet 190s proved so popular that we bought four of them for PFF grads and visiting jumpers. We also have a Sabre 170 for rent. Pitt Meadows is open 7 days a week, just call ahead, because if there are no students, we might sneak off to do laundry. Most weekdays we fly Cessnas, but when we get busy we launch the King Air. For example, Tuesday I did a couple of tandems out of our Cessna 205, repacked a reserve, then took a tandem out of the King Air on the sunset load. Wednesday we have 6 PFF and 13 tandems on the books so we will definitely crank up the King Air. Call me on my cell phone: (604) 488-9714
Chrisky 2 #12 August 21, 2003 Ok, once i got a bed, a table and some chairs, i will leave these immediately. Wonder if i could crank my 120 into that 170 container?? No? Maybe if i tie it up a bit? Hope I'll make it to the DZ by the end of the week to finally meet you people in person. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Chrisky 2 #14 August 28, 2003 Okay, i got the table and the chairs, and now i've gotten some nice Vancouver/Pitt Meadows air, too! Been there today, weren't many people there, but it was nice, a warm welcome and a _beutiful_ jump. And that 170 i rented wasn't so bad either... I hope i'll get a bed tomorrow, finally....The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
