Should i get a Factory Diver?

Recommended Posts

I already have an Aviator but i'm thinking about getting a full face b/c i'm doing more rw by far. I like the freedom of the open face and the kiss pass factor but the face protection during a funnel and warming factor during cross countries is cool as well. I don't even want to bother with the flip up lid fullfaces, to much to break and way to expensive.

factory divers are cool, you can pick them up for a really reasonable price used. I like mine, but I think I'll especially like mine come winter (or maybe not if I get too much frosty effect!! [:/])

I have one that I bought right off student status, and even though I keep it mostly so I can wear my glasses, I still like it. It's very comfortable, protects me, keeps my face from getting cold, and I even freefly with it ALL the time. The only thing I'm missing out on is the kiss passes! :)

Never tried a factory diver so I don't know anything about em.... but I know my Z1 almost always fogs up under canopy to some degree (the colder the weather the worse it fogs) so I always open it under canopy. Also I don't like landing with it closed... kinda messes with my depth perception I think.

Do factory divers allow a lot of wind through? They look like they have a big opening up front.

the one i jumped in Eloy on the Cross-country jumps was nice. It didn't have the face shield on it so i just wore my Oakleys. No problem and no squinting either :)

I've got a Factory Diver. Nice price, good helmet. I do regret not spending the extra cash for an Oxygn or Z1. I don't like the fact you can not flip up the face shield on the Factory Diver.

Hi Arthur!
I just bought a used one that I will be using the next time that I jump. I will let you know what I think. If I like it, then I will eventually buy a new one. I would sell you my old used one, but we are most likely not the same sizes.
I tried on Oxygens, Z1's, Boneheads and two used Factory Divers. The Factory Diver was the only full-faced helmets that fit me pretty well. The Oxygen was the next best fit, but it was too large for my narrow chin and there was too much space between the helmet and the back of my head. Maybe you should also try on a used Oxygen to see what you think. There are always some used full-faces at both Perris and Elsinore's gear stores.

P.S. Sorry that we haven't talked lately, but I really, really have not been feeling well since Sunday night. I am at my parent's home, but I am going to leave soon to go back to my apt. :)

You might want to check out the Bonehead Havok... the whole front portion of it swings up and down with a very simple locking mechanism. Spendy but I tried one at LP and WOW what a difference

Havok

I tried a couple of helmets ( ParaSport Z-1 and Panther) with the little button up front you have to push in to release the face shield and found them to be a really hard opener... all while the face shield was getting foggier.

I don't even plan on having the face shield there. just gonna put some shades on.

Just wait 'til you get footprints on your nose as well as the back of your helmet.

I know a guy who didn't like face shields until he got a foot in the face. Next week he had a new helmet complete with face shield.

Got one of those too. If you don't use the face shield it's an alright helmet. The flip up feature is weak, ends up ruining your lenses fast....

That is not my experience. I have had no trouble at all with the flip up lens.

Get one...they are great.

I have had an arrowhead, a Factory diver and an Oxygen.

I have well over 1500 jumps on the factory diver, and I still use it for tunnel.

I jump the Oxygen, but almost never flip up the lens. I only flip it up if it fogs...which is not often, maybe once this year.

I purchased a "never jumped" oxygen from a 300 way participant. I love the helmet, even if I'll never use the O2 set up. $150.00 is a great price for that! I also have a factory diver, but prefer the oxygen by far. I have not had any problems with the flip up mechanism or fogging. I usually leave the lens up until the door light comes on. I don't flip it up during my canopy ride, I've never felt the need to do that. (Fogging has never been an issue for me.)

Viking, find a helmet that fits you well. I used to jump my factory diver without the visor and with sunglasses. I lost a few too many pair of sunglasses and got sick of buying new ones:$, switched to goggles for a while, then put the visor back in for a couple of different reasons. (Including a freefall accident that resulted in a nasty black eye!)Now, I actually prefer the feel of the full face, and the quiet.

If your gear store has a demo program, I would try as many different helmets as you can before you buy. Everyone is different, and the helmet that fits me best may not work for you.

Well i decided to go with the never jumped 300-way Factory diver. It fit a little snug but thats the way its supposed to be i guess. I understand that it will get looser as the padding compress'
