Back sliding with a tube

Recommended Posts

On a double tube jump yesterday it was noted that I was backsliding a lot while holding a tube. The other tube was HD and I was in a sit and I was having real issues trying to keep close to him. The other 6 people all commented on my backslide. With out the tube I can fly where I want to, but with it I seem to backslide a lot. Anyone got any advice on how to stay more down the pipe with one hand straight up on the tube?

i imagine it was hard for you to fly close to him while flying away from him ;). the same thing happend on my first double tube jump. the guy sitting with the tube was backsliding and i was chasing him headdown with my tube. he had his knees a little high and was leaning forward just a bit.

you may want to try sitflying with one arm straight up without the tube or maybe try some hybrid dives where you have to hang under one or two people. you could also do some two-ways with your tube. use another jumper for a proximity reference and work on tweeking your body position.

Being as it is a hand held it does make it a bit harder.. my tips are make sure the tube is almost directly above your head. the first time I flew my tube it took most of the dive to figure this out. the pricipals of sit flying are the same with or without the tube. if you lean forward you go back and vise versa. Are you really proficiant sit flying without the tube? also I was wondering if you deploy with it. I deploy with mine and havnt had any problems yet (knock on wood) :P also as already said try it with smaller groups with only one tube in the sky so people can follow you where you go. this will also help you learning how to stay going streight down:)

The kicker is on Solos with the tube it seems to be right down the pipe and I take docks on occasion too with it. Its only when we get 2 or 3 tubes is the motion noticible by me or others.

It could be the fact that when it is with other people (not tubes) they are correcting more for what you dont notice. and or when jumping with other tubes in proximity the harder ability to move around makes it more difficult for all of you to stay on the same level??? maybe try to jump with a few people not tugging tubes and tell them to stay stable and not follow you...if you can stay with them then it just might be the added obsticals of more tubes is distracting you? anyways good luck keeping it streight..
