Ron 10 #27 August 4, 2003 QuoteWe use Navigators (PD hybrids) for our student canopies at SD Aggieland. I've flown all the ones we've had, and I do have to say, they make GREAT canopies for students. Yes I think they do as well. But then you said QuoteAt this point, I wouldn't really enjoy one for my primary canopy, though. And thats what I ment...They never really caught on by "up" jumpers. I don't know one person that jumps a Hybrid. sundevil777 102 #28 August 4, 2003 The sabre 2 vs spectre is probably the better comparison you should make from the PD lineup. I like soft openings, but a 1000 foot opening snivel is not my idea of a good canopy. I think it was Billvon that pointed out a long time ago that you can reach a terminal velocity under a sniveling canopy, after which, any further snivel will not result in a softer opening. I had long snivels with my old Paraflite Astrobe, it only seemed to open after I would unstow the brakes - it was very important to have brake handles that held themselves open for your hands to grab.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am

SkydiverRick 0 #30 August 5, 2003 Quotesaber was OK. i have 2 herniated discs in my back from playing rugby 2 years ago... sabers openings were bothering it a lot. spectres... much softer:) I've heard that sabre2 opens soft. Nice stable canopy for a beginner. never pull low......unless you are

dragon2 2 #32 August 5, 2003 Quote But my point is that very few people buy a hybrid for their PRIMARY canopy. They really never caught on. Maybe not on your side of the pond. A lot of intermediate jumpers here jump Merit's (I think it might be the second most jumped canopy for this class of jumpers, the first being the original Sabre, but this is just my guess). I've seen a couple of Electra's and Silhouette's around too. Depends on where you are I guess, american jumpers can't jump PdF's stuff but for us it is cheaper then a lot of other (american) brands. Personally I really didn't like the way a Merit opens and flies and lands, I liked packing it tho. Never jumped an Electra or Silhouette. ciel bleu, Saskia
Chrisky 2 #34 August 6, 2003 The only way to get the right answer for your question ist jumping a demo of the exact canopy you think about buying. You don't eat shit because billions of flies can't be wrong, do you? I got me a new canopy recently (Paratec Faqtor, rocks like hell!), but coming off a Spark (Sabre-class) i've been testing a Sabre2, Spectre, Faqtor and some other canopies. That's the only way you can be sure the canopy you pay for makes you feel (and fly) safe. So if you feel better with a canopy someone else says is sluggish and boring, don't care what he says. Choosing the right canopy is a very personal decision. So try to get some Demo or go to a DZ that has one for a weekend. Just my 2c.The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...
