stoneycase 0 #1 August 4, 2003 Hello I'm looking for some advice on buying a used container. I'm 5'10", 145lbs and trying to find a container (well really an entire system) that will fit me well. I've jumped multiple containers in my short time, Telesis (student), Wings, Javelin, and Infinity and enjoyed the Infinity the most. I'm looking to get into freeflying and I really like the extra riser protection with the integrated reserve flaps. If I was looking at a used Infinity that was fitted for someone 6'1", 180 lbs would I be looking at a container too large for me? It seems the torso size (and perhaps the leg straps) may be incorrect for me. I know it holds the canopy size I want and am comfortable flying (main 150) so that's not really a question. Any input on how much this *may* matter would be appreciated. Also if anyone has info on "resizing" containers, especially Infinity's I'd appreciate it. If I could buy this rig and then have a rigger make some mods to get it to fit a little bit better (shorten the leg straps??) that may be an option as well. riggerrob 643 #2 August 4, 2003 Let's get our terminology straight. "Container" size determines which canopies you can pack into it. "Harness" size refers to which size of human you can strap into it. The two factors are only loosely related. It sounds like the previous owner was considerably bigger than you, ergo the harness will not fit very well. Your best bet is to ask your local rigger to inspect the harness while you are wearing it and the container is full of canopies. Depending upon where you differ in size, it may be a simple fix (i.e. shortening leg pads) or an expensive fix (i.e. replacing main lift web). Only a master rigger or gear manufacturer can make that call. Good luck!
stoneycase 0 #3 August 4, 2003 Thanks Rob, I learn something new everyday. I've got a master rigger at my local DZ that I've been talking to. Hopefully he should be able to inspect the harness for me. shotat 0 #4 August 5, 2003 I had a Javelin resized a couple of years ago, ended up spending about $300 with reserve repack and everything.... ***How come all the rich kids get to make all of the jumps?***
flyer299 0 #5 August 6, 2003 I am sending my Infinity back next week to get the harness extended a few inches. I was given a quote of $100 (plus shipping) by the Infinity guys. They will take care of you. I've heard nothing but great things about them. Plus if you are b uying used, when you send it back, they can fix any little dings or worn parts.
