popeyefireman 0 #1 August 2, 2003 OK, my cypress is up for its 8 year. Now I just have some random questions. How long does it usualy take? Have you ever heard of barrowing a cypress untill it returns? What is the average cost? Would you advise on jumping yje rig without a cypress? Just some simple questinos, sorry to take up your time. betzilla 56 #2 August 2, 2003 It takes 2-3 weeks, and you can "rent" a Cypres from SSK while yours is in the shop, I've heard (I'm pretty sure I read it somewhere too). Here's their number: 513-934-3201 plan to spend $200, including shipping, and add $65 if you also need new batteries.
aero04 0 #3 August 3, 2003 I did my 8 year in November. Check out their page. Lots of good info. There are a few pdf's that will address your questions. QuoteHow long does it usualy take? Got mine back in about a month. QuoteHave you ever heard of barrowing a cypress untill it returns? Yep. There is a pdf on the link above that covers this. QuoteWhat is the average cost? The 4/8 year check/maintenance is $180. More if you need batteries or repairs. QuoteWould you advise on jumping yje rig without a cypress? That's really up to you. Do what you feel comfortable with. andy2 0 #4 August 3, 2003 I would advise jumping it without it while its gone, but I jump my rig all the time without the help of an AAD. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... slotperfect 7 #5 August 3, 2003 Their normal turn around is 10 days from receipt of the unit. Tack on shipping to and from your location to get your total down time. Rental CYPRES units from SSK are expensive. I recommend you plan your family vacation during the downtime for your rig. I recommend you don't have the reserve packed without it so you can jump until it gets back. My $.02 Arrive Safely John

Andy, If your profile is correct, you should not be advising anyone what equipment to jump with or without. andy2 0 #7 August 3, 2003 you're right. I just wanted to give a perspective that not all low time jumpers feel that they can't jump if they dont have an AAD. But yeah, listen to the experienced folks at your DZ, not anybody on dropzone.com. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... aero04 0 #9 August 4, 2003 Quote8 weeks & counting... Sigh! Yikes!!! I'd call or email them. But since you have to send it half way around the world, I guess it would take longer. Hope you get it soon!
TheBachelor 5 #10 August 4, 2003 Some of the riggers (usually connected with a DZ) have loaner programs (for a fee, of course). Check with the riggers at Eloy (if you're in AZ like your profile says.)There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years... bodypilot90 0 #11 August 4, 2003 Quote Would you advise on jumping yje rig without a cypress? Just some simple questinos, sorry to take up your time. I left mine out till next repack time. It's only a back up.
Ron 10 #12 August 4, 2003 QuoteWould you advise on jumping yje rig without a cypress? I jump with or without a CYPRES.. If you will not jump without, you need to ask yourself why not? I personally think that a CYPRES is a back up which is nice to have, but I would jump without it. For the record I jumped without a CYPRES from jump #12 to #623. I only got one then cause I got a GREAT deal on it...Like 600.00. And I have lost a teamate that would be alive if he had one....Then again he would be alive if he had pulled his reserve as well."No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers,
