Recommended Posts

i have some very basic questions about choice on my new rig i had no choices on my first used rig.
i want mini risers but what is the diff. between #17 and #8 mini's also are hip rings worth the price and are kill line/colapsable/and centerline all the same type of pc with different names. i know these are all really basic question but i have never really had to worry about it. thanks

Ok, I'll try and answer some of your questions. And remember, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people

Type 17 webbing is 1 inch wide, while type 8 is 1 3/4 inches wide. Only type 17 is usually referred to as mini risers.

Hip rigs, is really up to you, just personal preference. I would say don't let the extra $20 or whatever scare you. But try on an articulated harness, then try on one that isn't, see which you prefer then follow your heart :)

And just as a side note, I’ve been told that hips rigs and make a harness stronger. Something to do with the rigs carrying the weight I suppose.

I know that kill line and collapsible PC's are the same. Centerline, though, I don't know, a center line is the peace of fabric that goes from the top of you PC to where the mesh ends. Could also refer to a bungee PC, but I doubt it since bungee PC’s aren’t common.
Hope that helps!

BTW, what kind of harness were you thinking of buying?

I don't mean to jump on you or anything, but kill line and collapsible PC's are not the same thing. A kill line is a collapsible PC, as is a bungy line. They're just two different types of collapsible PC's.

Bungy line are generally accpted to be worse than kill line, since they are prone to strech/shrinkage and therefore may not inflate properly.

Kill line PC's are more reliable, but only if well-maintained, and be aware that they must be cocked (and checked) before every jump.

I've never heard of a centreline PC, but it's feasible that it's brand name for a kill line.
