andy2 0 #1 July 24, 2003 I have heard mention a couple of people talk about testing altimeters to figure out if its accurately reading or not. Can this be done in a pressure chamber for exact results? If so should a master rigger have a pressure chamber that he could do this to mine? FrenchyDiver 0 #2 July 24, 2003 What I always do when visiting a new DZ, or on a regular basis at my home DZ is ask one of the pilots to take it with him and check its readings at various altitudes. AndyMan 7 #3 July 24, 2003 alti-3 will be at WFFC, and they will bring their test chamber. It's the easiest way to get yours checked. They'll test against a standardized calibrated altimeter. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
skymedic 0 #4 July 24, 2003 You mean ALTI-2 will be there... who make the alti 3...hehehe Marc otherwise known as Mr.Fallinwoman....
jtval 0 #5 July 24, 2003 the link didnt work marc, well if you have an alti in question you can always jump with two. and check em on your jump and ride up! as for EXACT. im not sure there is a such alti. I could be wrongMy photos My Videos
andy2 0 #6 July 24, 2003 ok, I think I was misunderstood with my original post. Thanks JT for pointing out that I could jump with two, but I already thought of that I just wanted to know if my rigger or a rigger could test it in a pressure chamber or if it was common for a rigger to even have such a tool. Whatever, I'll just ask my rigger this weekend. CIAO! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... ZigZagMarquis 9 #7 July 25, 2003 I've had mine checked now and again in a presure chamber used to run ckecks on FXCs and/or when Smity from Alti-2 is doing his road-show thing. Also, I tend to compare my altimeter to others on the plane on the ride up. If its within +/- 500 ft at the top and within +/- 100 to 200ish feet at breakoff altitude on the way up, I don't sweat it much. I tend to look at the things more on the ride up then in freefall and hardly never between breakoff and pull when in freefall, its all about separation and looking at the dirt at that point. Hooknswoop 19 #8 July 25, 2003 As soon as I get a new altitmeter for it (checked on that today), I'll have a test chamber that I can test altitmeters and FXC's with. I'll keep you posted when it is operational. Derek
andy2 0 #9 July 25, 2003 cool derek, so I take it testing chambers arn't too common then? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
Hooknswoop 19 #10 July 25, 2003 No, before I bought a used one, I don't think I have ever even seen one before. Derek
slotperfect 7 #11 July 25, 2003 If you can do without them for a few days, I will be glad to test them for you for free. You will just be responsible for any transportation or shipping costs. For example, come to Raeford to skydive for a weekend, leave them there for me, and I'll ship them back to you (insured, of course). Lemme know!?!?Arrive Safely John
andy2 0 #12 July 25, 2003 hehe thanks SP. I'm not too worried about it, was just curious if riggers had neat toys that could tell exactly how accurate it was. I'm still trying to make it out to Raeford for a few jumps in the near future so watch out . I was just planning on comparing my alti to others in the plane ride up for the first couple times just to check that its on... Thanks for the replies! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
riggerrob 643 #13 July 25, 2003 If the DZ uses FXC 12000s on their student gear, they should have a test chamber.
betzilla 56 #14 July 25, 2003 Yep. We have one. It's ancient, but it still works.
