I am having a problem with both of these cameras turning themselves off when I exit the airplane.
Is there a way to keep this from happening.

yes,, ebay !! then buy a solid state camera ( cx 100, 110 etc) or a dv tape based camera.

Cameras that use DVD for recording are not reliable for skydiving. The reduced air pressure at altitude can allow the write head to crash into the disk. Quick way to kill a camera. Tape based (which is being phased out) and solid state are the way to go. Be glad your cameras still work instead of just turning off.

One has a memory card slot on it. If I use the memory card instead of the hard drive will that work?

if one of them records direct onto the memory card then that should work okay.
