mcGowan 0 #1 April 1, 2010 Check this out. the more i look at it the better it looks. lanc port , capture stills after the fact and 24,30 and 60 fps and a shutter priority mode so you can pick your shutter speed (finally) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/671657-REG/Canon_4316B001_VIXIA_HF_S20_Dual.html#features
dragon2 2 #2 April 1, 2010 Hmm it's got OIS though which is likely not good for skydiving (and unfortunately seems to be found in all pro-sumer camcorder models, like this one...), and there've been problems with Canon camcorders in the past so I wouldn't want to be the one to buy one first Sidenote: Quote Extra compensation is applied at wide-angle focal lengths to eliminate unwanted shaking which is common when walking. Not useful for us, also kinda weird IMO, I'd assume you want extra IS with higher zoom settings not lower. ciel bleu, Saskia

mcGowan 0 #4 April 1, 2010 I have one on order so i will let ya know how it works after i run it through the paces. Not at all concerned about the OIS as that system in one form or another has been around for years and had not caused a problem until sony came out with the cvx 7, cvx 12 and the HDR-TG1 after that the problem seemed to get sorted out. (what camera are you using?) I have used the cx 100 and i am presently using a cx 500 which seems to have buttery smooth ois. i am thinking the extra ois at wide angles is because when walking , running or say skydiving with the camera you would be using a wider focal length and camera shake could use some assistance. all that said i am still excited about being able to pick my shutter speed and also the after the fact still image capture capabilities not to mention having the lanc port back again. One of the many things i have learned over the years is a frame of mind such as contempt prior to investigation closes many if not all doors to discovery. Just saying . Grabbing stills from the video at 8 megs would be awesome.my pics & stuff!
 DSE 5 #6 April 2, 2010 QuoteGrabbing stills from the video at 8 megs would be awesome. You can't grab 8 meg stills from video. Video by definition, can't be more than 1.9 pixels, no matter the size of the sensor. That said, this camera shoots a separate stream. However, it's still a low end lens with no color timing. But....it might work. We'll see. Canon USA has been promising one since I saw it at CES. Still hasn't arrived, however. OIS on Canon is very different than OIS on Sony. Sony used to license their stabilization from Canon, then Canon changed out their system (still the best in the world on still lenses, IMO), and Sony went their own way. Panasonic uses a variant of the Canon system. Canon freefloats the lenses whether stabilization is turned on or not. This camera *may* be different, because this camera didn't originate with the video design group like previous Vixia cams did. Canon has been doing some pretty amazing things with video lately, and their new imagers are scary cool. OIS might work for me too though as I usually bellyfly anyway. I'm trying to remember what the specific problems with Canon cameras that were jumped here were. I specifically seem to remember focus problems (having to re-set the focus for every jump?) or something, but not 100% sure. This was a few years ago anyway so maybe (hopefully) things have changed by now I personally don't need the lanc back as I've already switched over all my helmets, but I did like the cam-eye button a bit better than the hype-eye button... The wide angle IS thing is the opposite of photo camera IS, but then again not many people are running while taking photos I guess ciel bleu, Saskia
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
