skip 0 #1 July 3, 2003 When your main is out and you’ve decided to give your whole rig a once over what kind of things do you look for? Do you have a full rig inspection routine etc? I’ve been laying my rig out once a month or so and checking it over; just looking for some items that I might be looking over etc. .:skip
Wags 0 #2 July 3, 2003 Skip, here is the check list I use when packing a reserve, it has a section for the harness/container, the reserve, and it also has a section for the main inspection. You can use a combination of the first and last sections, and it should cover most everything you need to check. Some of the things are specific to some of the gear I work with, so if you don't know what something is, ask. But it might not pertain to your gear. I'm sure you don't have a through loop. It's great to hear that someone out there inspects their gear. I always hear people say they inspect their gear when they pack, to that I say Bull S&!t. The only way to do a true inspection in my opinion, is to make time for it, and use a checklist. Otherwise you will certainly miss something. The manufactures recommend that you cut-a-way your main once a month, and exercise the risers at the 3 ring, to prevent a set in them. Skip, you ever think of becoming a rigger? skip 0 #3 July 3, 2003 Hey Wags great stuff; I love and use check lists for a bunch of stuff; I’m formulating my own “rig maintenance check list” and couldn’t have asked for a better example. I’m really just getting started in this whole world of parachuting and I guess one of my biggest hang up’s so far is wanting to know and trust every single thing about my gear. I am looking and do intend on finding a rigger who will sit with me and teach me a bunch of my rigging needs. So in that since yeas I guess I have thought about becoming a rigger. I find the gear absolutely fascinating. Thanks again for the .doc big help.. Waka Waka .:skip
nacmacfeegle 0 #4 July 3, 2003 There's stuff here... http://www.dropzone.com/safety/resources/safetychecklist/ And here... http://www.zct.co.uk/skydivemag/pages/articles/apr97/flightlinecheck.htm http://www.zct.co.uk/skydivemag/pages/articles/aug96/lookafteryourkit.htm Hmmm, Spaceland eh? My recommendation would be, next time the weather is not so good, take a wee trip across to the gas station, pick up a six pack of Heinekins, and get Chris Miller to talk you through stuff over a couple of green ones. He's pretty good and will talk you through stuff if he's not too busy. You'd be surprised what Chris will do for a couple of green ones.....Tell him Scottish Dave was asking after him.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
